What to do in Hunter

Activities, attractions and tours

I live here and there's a park right on the shore of Lake Macquarie (Australia's largest salt water lake, as in one that actually has water in it all the time).
There's a lovely park, sadly without facilities, just down the road and it's a wonderful spot to shoot sunrises or view some bird life.
Stockton Beach gets seriously big when storm surf rolls in, making for some spectacular scenes. This was taken in June 2019 when a southerly push the swell up. Going out is impossible here, even bulk freighters have run aground under these conditions.
Watching the ferries coming and going at Stockton. Newcastle City in NSW is in the distance.
Please head over to my blog to read more about a day trip to Stockton.
NEWCASTLE’S NEW ANZAC MEMORIAL WALK
A new addition to Newcastle is the Anzac Memorial Bridge along Memorial Drive. With stunning coastal views across the water and in the other direction the city, this is a walk worth doing.

NEWCASTLE’S NEW ANZAC MEMORIAL WALK
A new addition to Newcastle is the Anzac Memorial Bridge along Memorial Drive. With stunning coastal views across the water and in the other direction the city, this is a walk worth doing.
There is plenty of parking down near the surf club and beach and also on the roadside at the other end of Memorial drive.
I think this is a walk for those who are not scared of heights and for those who are reasonably fit. It’s not only the walk up the hill, there is also stairs before you reach the beginning of the bridge.
The wind became pretty fierce on our visit and the numbers of people did make the bridge tremor from time to time.
The ANZAC Memorial Bridge honours the WW1 diggers from Newcastle with their names engraved on each of the metal figurines. It’s a lovely Memorial and well worth the visit.
