Bring your kids to learn about modern advances and enjoy building your own robot and playing with the interactive displays in this museum’s themed galleries.

With its exhibits on modern innovation and art, The Tech Museum of Innovation is an emblem of San José’s avant-garde culture. It is in a flamboyant building with orange walls, a blue dome and modernist features. Across the three themed floors of the structure, explore the fascinating displays that showcase modern technology. On the lower floor is a 45-foot (14-meter) statue surrounded by a cylindrical feature.

Reflect on the way technical advances are interacting with our daily lives as you make your way across the galleries. Visit the Social Robots area to construct your own mechanical friend with sensors and controllers. See how our lives are transformed and prolonged by new advances in the Innovations in Health Care section. The fascinating Cyber Detectives area teaches your children about internet safety.

Children aged 8 and above can join workshop classes on innovative technologies, such as 3-D printing and soldering. Bring your kids to the Family Math & Engineering class.

Watch a movie on the huge screen of the Hackworth IMAX Dome Theater. The schedule tends to include nonfiction films with stunning imagery that is enhanced by the high-quality screen.

Enjoy the region’s regular warm, sunny days with a stroll on the lawn of the Plaza de Cesar Chavez Park in front of the museum. The grounds contain a fountain and shady trees. Capture photos of the bulbous blue dome of the museum peeking above the trees.

The full name of the complex is The Tech Museum of Innovation, but locals call it The Tech. It opens daily from morning until late afternoon. There is a fee to enter the galleries, with discounts for students, seniors and kids. Consider a combination ticket that includes the IMAX theater.

The Tech Museum of Innovation is in the Downtown San José area in the central part of the city. Ride the light railway system to the Convention Center or Paseo de San Antonio stations or take a bus to a nearby stop. Near the museum are several landmarks, including Parkside Hall and the California Theatre.
