"The hotel is a located inside a converted house. Everything looks very traditional, complete with low ceilings, sliding doors, mat covered floors and futons. The dorm slept four, which I though was tight, but it seems to work well enough that I slept quite well both nights. My futon had two layers and although I like a firm mattress, I did think it was quite sore on my back the 1st night. Common areas include the kitchen, cafe and lounge. "Manager and staff were super friendly and helpful. Room was very spacious. Traditional sleeping mat was very comfortable and I probably got my best night's sleep while on this trip. Walls are a little thin, but all guests were quiet and respectful of others. Baths looked great but unfortunately didn't get to use them. With size 15 feet I wouldn't expect any of the hotel slippers to fit. We had excellent meals within a 5 minute walk. Really enjoyed Yamanouchi!"

"I had a wonderful stay at Urakusatsu Tou in Kusatsu, Japan. The hotel is very clean, and the room was spacious and comfortable. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the check-in process was smooth and efficient.
