Come to one of only two urban rainforests in the world, marvel at the array of plants and animals before relaxing with a picnic.

One of the last surviving green spaces in Singapore city centre, this 74 hectare site offers a great day out for environmental enthusiasts and families alike. Indigenous flora and fauna are on show, as well as one of the world's best orchid research facilities. You can marvel at the beauty of some of the world’s most amazing plants and animals, then relax and have your lunch all in the same place.A top tip to get the best out of your visit is to come early. The gardens open before sunrise, and a morning visit means you miss the strongest heat and the busiest part of the day. Watching the sun rise above the treetops is a magical experience, and the calls of the birds make for an atmospheric accompaniment. The National Orchid Garden is a wonderful treasure, with over 1,000 varieties and a further 2,000 hybrid orchids, this is an overpowering riot of colour. Furthermore, it is also in the vanguard of global research and preservation efforts in relation to these beautifully delicate flowers. Young children will be delighted by the Jacob Ballas Children's Garden, with its water play area. There is also the opportunity for them to learn how photosynthesis works and how important it is to life on earth.Located in the heart of the city, Singapore Botanic Gardens can be reached by car, taxi or on foot. A number of different bus routes will bring you to the gardens. Public parking is available on Tyersall Avenue, and there is pay parking in the gardens. Open every day of the week, and admission is free. There is a moderate charge for visiting the National Orchid Garden.
