Learn more about Lydd

This historic town on Romney Marsh offers visitors the chance to explore All Saints Church, known locally as 'the cathedral of the marsh.' Nearby, the RSPB nature reserve provides excellent birdwatching opportunities while Dungeness beach in the surrounding area attracts photographers seeking its distinctive landscape.

The Sound Mirrors in Dungeness.

Designed and built by Percy Rothwell these are a forerunner of radar and were built on the south and northeast coasts of England between about 1916 and the 1930s.

They were intended to provide early warning of incoming enemy aeroplanes and airships about to attack coastal towns.

With the development of faster aircraft the sound mirrors became less useful, as an aircraft would be within sight by the time it had been located, and radar finally rendered the mirrors obsolete.
