Good location. Easy check in and out. Soap and shampoo provided. A little dated.

Liked: Room comfort
Location
Very basic hostel level but the location is excellent, literally two steps from Piccadilly line underground from Heathrow. Lots of restaurants close by and good 24hr Tesco opposite. Clean but old premises, comfortable beds. Family room in the basement is great for 4-5 people and has full kitchen (old style).

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
Right next door to tube station. Pret just across the road and a good pub 40 mtres away. All very convenient.
Read other reviews of bed bugs and dirt and was concerned - stayed on top floor: it was clean, no trace of pests. The bathroom was a retro 80s set up, nothing to fault. You pay for what you get: the Russell is basic but ideal for seeing London. Stayed in far more expensive places that have been far worse.
This is not a hotel, it’s basically a room that was rented. There’s no service, no amenities, we took out our garbage after a few days. It’s hot and tiny for three people. It was a great location, and quiet. It’s cheaper than most “hotels” in London but there are reasons why it’s cheaper.
Just above tube station, doesn't offer breakfast, laundryservice or others, but good food and stores are 1-3 minutes walk away and convenient selfservice laundrette 5 minutes walk from hotel. Hotel is in an old building and it shows, but if all you need is a tiny shower and place to lay your head while exploring the city, this is your place. Affordable, nothing fancy, but does it's trick. We had room number 12 in top floor (no elevator, narrow stairs). No bedbugs found.
The entire building is very tired, the carpets were threadbare, the floor boards creaked and the windows didn't shut properly.
On the positive side, the wifi worked well and it was very convenient for restaurants and transport links.
Ideal for a one- nighter, comfortable but basic. Let down by difficulty in communication! Their idea of 24 hour reception is going outside and ringing the doorbell to get attention! Their phone number on the website is invalid and they don't respond to messages via the website either so that was frustrating when I was trying to ensure that I could leave my bag prior to check-in
Our short stay was fine. I would suggest 3 of things.
1) a few more hangers. We were 3 and only had 2 hangers
2) state in your writeup that there is a hair dryer.
3) organise something so one can contact the hotel. The number provided 02032896304 and 02078377686 are never answered.
While some complained about the noise we never heard anything. The furniture and carpeting are dated but clean and functional. The room was quite small for 3 but as we were only there to sleep it didn't bother us. The location is a 100% advantage so well worth the price.

Our room was a triple with a shared bathroom. This room is not shown on the website BEWARE. This room is more like a hostel not hotel. There is no air, no fridge, no tv remote. No coffee, kettle or anything. The bedroom is not a solid door so lights go on and off all night as people come and go. Beds are horribly hard. The shared bathroom we had was the pink one shown on the website and the pictures make it look good. It is not. However there is a 25 hour store across the street to get what you need. The location is good. 15 minute walk to the train station and the tube is right next door. If you are looking for a very basic no amenities room this would be for you
We stayed for 4 nights for a sightseeing break, but didn’t book until around 5 weeks before. Was myself, my husband and our 17 year old son.
Other hotels I looked at for 3 people had a double plus a pull out type bed for the third person whereas The Russel Hotel had 2 doubles. I thought it would be more beneficial to have a good nights sleep than somewhere that was more up market. I’m really glad we did as a grumpy 17 year old wouldn’t have been good!
We all slept well, our room was ok, not massive, not the nicest by any means but did the job.
The shower worked fine, a little small but ok.
Everything was a bit dated. It’s not really a hotel, just a room and shower room with no other facilities.
Doors did bag a bit loudly with people coming in or out during the night. But didn’t disturb us too much to be really annoying.
Location was good for us.
If I had a bit more money and booked further in advance I would probably look at somewhere a bit nicer but it did the job and we did have a nice break.
We needed to add a room to our reservations and made a mistake when booking this hotel because it had a very similar name to the hotel we already had a booking with for the previous night. After searching for a long time to try to find a phone number to get assistance, we spoke with a hotels.com associate who tried to call the hotel to explain the mistake and ask for an exception to their non-cancellation policy. The associate was not able to make contact with the hotel at the time, but assured us that hotels.com would negotiate the matter with the hotel to credit our account. In the end the hotel refused to cancel the reservation. My family did end up staying there and it worked out ok, but it was not as nice as what I had originally planned for them. The best thing about the hotel was that it was right next door to the Russell Square Underground station and across the street from the Bloomsbury shopping mall. Very convenient and surprisingly quiet for being so close to the tube. However, customer service was virtually non-existent. It did appear to be fairly clean, but the decor was very bland. The room had hardly anything more than 2 beds and a bathroom; no luxuries at all.
The location is great, our room was clean, and the beds were comfortable. The entrance and hallway are beat-up and smell funky but the bedroom and shared bath were fine. Not a fancy place, but a good price. The location is surprisingly quiet, even though it is right next to the Russell Square station.
