"The room was clean not very spacious for two people. Great AC and access to a private bathing room. The breakfast was good and inexpensive. It was in a great location."

"Had a lovely stay. Facilities and room were spotless. Bathroom and toilet were really clean. Staff were really helpful and couldn't ask for more! Would stay here again!"

"Staff were friendly and helpful.
I'd they couldn't give answer, they found someone who could. Onsen is amazing, but single. One note is it switches every day, one day females, one day males."

"Amazing place to stay in Nara, located right in the Park but in a quiet area.
Delicious traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast, they were even able to accommodate vegetarian requests.
Sleeping on the tatami was special!!
Very attentive and kind staff, the only note is that they don't speak English so make sure to have your phone with you with Google translate, especially at the restaurant.
The matcha tea ceremony was cute but very rushed (10 minutes in total)."

"This was my first time staying at a ryokan. I had a wonderful time. The view was simply amazing. The dinner and breakfast meals were 10 out of 10 for presentation and taste. The baths were equally refreshing. The only thing I could critique is the bed was a little minimal compared to western beds I'm used to. I still got a great nights rest and would come back in a heartbeat."

"Delicious breakfast & meals (I recommend the Sukiyaki!), a beautifully maintained grounds in a picturesque location, with the friendliest staff - we LOVED our time here and highly recommend it!"

You never know which one to go with when scrolling through the countless options on the Internet, but we are very glad we stayed at Asukasou. The people were genuinely friendly and helpful and the room was really nice - the best futon I've ever slept on!
There is an open air rooftop bath that is a must do if you stay here.
Be warned: those travelling with English only may have trouble finding this inn as the sign (I think) was only in Japanese.

This Ryokan is located just a short walk to the major gardens and Shrines, and it's in the charming Nara town tradtional layout of buildings. It's all wonderful to get around on foot. The staff were most courteous and friendly, i felt like a welcome guest, and recommend this ryokan highly. Arigato gozaimas ta, Nara Ryokan!

The hospitality, the property and the food were exceptional!
If you have the opportunity to take the dinner and breakfast option, I would highly recommend it, absolutely fabulous!
This is a great property for those wanting to submerge themselves into Japanese culture.

We stayed for one night for the Japanese ryokan experience. Tried the Japanese style set menu - very tasty and great experience (11 courses - very filling ). Some of the staff spoke English which was a great help us us as our Japanese was limited.
Our room had an outdoor private bath which was great to soak in after a few hours walking around Nara park.
Getting to and from the ryokan was simple as long as you called ahead to book the courtesy shuttle which goes back and forth from the 2 Nara...

IN an amazing location right next to the Nara Kintetsu train station and in a shopping arcade with a great choice of food. The room was Japanese style .Pretty squashed . Fairly expensive with no breakfast offered compared to other local hotels . Friendly service

If I could give this place 10 stars I would. An incredible experience that I will always remember. I cannot think of anything that was not exceptional.

The property was very nice and the staff are so wonderful; they really go out of their way for the service. We had a relaxing stay, using the gender split onsen and also the Japanese bath tub in our room. The property was covered in scaffolding when we were there, they must be doing some external renovations. The view from our bath tub would've been nicer without the scaffolding. The breakfast in the morning was also great!

The staff were so friendly and helpful, we loved the traditional breakfast, they were accommodating to my husband who can’t eat fish. They have a courtesy bus that takes you to Arashiyama which I didn’t know and so glad they suggested. The futons are hard but I got used to them. They also said their onsen is tattoo friendly. But most of the place is in such a spectacular forest it was so pretty in the late autumn I will definitely be going back.

We really enjoyed our stay. The 108 year old Ryokan was beautiful and authentic but with modern facilities such as the much needed air conditioning (37 deg C days during our stay). Our room was a large family room with a cupboard for our luggage, a table to sit at and 4 futons and overlooking the inner court garden. The traditional shower and hot bath (wooden) plus a western variety operated on a booking in-times system which seemed to work well, and despite the hot days , a hot bath was a...
