The studio apartment was perfect for our short stay in the area. It was well appointed and so quiet. It was a short drive to Hobbiton for our tour and felt like we were already in the shire. We could easily drive to Cambridge for any meals or provisions. I recommend Kauri Lodge as a great stay in the area.

Shona welcomed us warmly and provided amenities for a nice breakfast. Her place is clean, spacious, and set in a lovely area surrounded by rolling green hills. We were sad that we had to leave early for the next stop in our journey and would love to visit again.

The views all around were amazing. It was great to wake up surrounded by sheep and cows. A short drive into Cambridge for delicious food. Only thing missing for was bedside lamps to read by.

If you are going to Hobbiton this wonderful farm is perched on the crest of an undulating valley with perfect views of sunset. The bed is comfortable, the apartment is spacious and the family who own it are warm and welcoming. Travel a beautiful winding back country road for 20 mins to get to Hobbiton. Loved it

Beautiful countryside refuge
This is such a wonderful place to stay! Very comfortable, quiet, in a gorgeous setting on a farm. Shona, the host, is very helpful and welcoming. The breakfast provisions are ample and having a full kitchen is really nice. We stayed in the studio unit, which is quite large and has a gorgeous view out the back. Plus, only 15 minutes from Hobbiton, an hour to the Waitomo glow worms, 15 minutes from Cambridge, which is a sweet little town. Many other beautiful places are nearby. It's such a cosy, relaxing retreat from the world. I wish we could have stayed longer!

Kauri Lodge is an amazing place! I have never been to such a clean and well kept place!! The hosts were amazing and had fantastic communication! Everything was comfy and the food was perfect for breakfast! The stars were so clear and the view so relaxing! We didn’t want to leave!!

Property in lovely setting, spacious and well equipped. A pity that they did not make more of the view eg a deck looking out to Maungatautari. Great range of provisions but nicer tea, bread and jams would have greatly enhanced our experience.

A bit disappointed in you review Jim. We are working on updating gardens and the deck around the back. I'm surprised at your view of the breakfast as we do buy good quality bread, we also provide eggs which many B n Bs don't and how many teas should we provide as we give you 3 herbals, black , plunger coffee, instant coffee and milo. Im not sure what was wrong with boysenberry and apricot jam as they are the same brand as you get in the little packets. The jam is placed in small jars as we are trying to be a sustainable venture and cut down on plastic items.We work hard to provide a good experience for our guests.

We stayed three nights in the studio and it was a relaxing getaway from the city. The kitchen was well equipped, and our host Shona was ever ready to replenish any breakfast items we might have needed. Some fixtures could have been updated but everything was still comfortable.

Spacious and beautiful views.
What an amazing place! Beautiful views, clean, and very spacious. Short drive to Hobbiton. Very friendly and helpful host. Kitchen is stock with supplies from granola to rice, and fresh OJ and eggs. If it’s available book it, don’t think twice.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It is quiet and out of the way, yet close enough to the few restaurants in the area and very convenient for a visit to the Hobbiton Movie Set. It was very private with incredible views just outside the door and spectacular star gazing. Simple & clean.

It’s quite close to Hobbitton and Matamata Friendly, relaxed atmosphere Lovely deck to sit outside This may not be part of the ‘Dark Sky Reserve’ but we had better stargazing here than we did at Aoraki Mt Cook - beautiful!!

Thank you for your review. In regards to laundry facilities it says on our website that we can accommodate you. I did say to you that if you needed anything, you were to only ask. As our laundry is a private part of our home, it is not freely available unless our clients talk to us. Also Cambridge is only 10 minutes away and does have a laundromat. Otherwise we hope you enjoyed your time with us.

Nice location in the rolling hills. Although our booked studio was changed on arrival to an apartment connected to the main house, it was still nice. Cooking equipment abit basic, but enough for a 1 night stay.

Private apartment
This was a unique stay in the hills on a farm. We had the separate cabin type apartment. It was close to Matamata and the Hobitown site. Very quiet and private.

Lovely farm stay in the countryside, near to Hobbiton movie set. Property owner was wonderful, and allowed our one year-old to visit with the horse and cows.
