Nice condo, great location, poor management team

We booked this stay through VRBO. The stay was paid for in full at the time of booking. 5 days prior to check in, I got a text from the management company stating that the unit owner had cancelled our booking and they had a different offer for us. My problem with this was the method of communication. The text message wanted me to respond with ACCEPT to get the new offer. It seemed like a scam and very weird given that I never received a phone call or email. I was not able to get in touch with anyone from the company after that distressing text message despite calling them and texting back. I had to contact VRBO to help me to decipher if this was a scam or real. It was also distressing because we were flying out on the first part of our vacation early the next day. VRBO wasn’t able to get in touch with the managing company either. Finally at 9pm that night I received a call from the management company confirming that indeed our original booking had been cancelled but that they had a smaller unit available in the same location for our dates. I was told I would receive a discount of 50% off for the smaller unit. I had to accept the offer since I had no other options and we were leaving for our vacation the next day. But thankfully check in went smoothly and our stay was great. My other issue is that I was told that my refund would be processed upon check in. It wasn’t and I had to remind the management team twice to get the refund processed. Beware of this management company!
