The best area to stay in Houghton is the village centre, particularly around the main street, for convenient access to local amenities and a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere.

This central area is where you'll find the local shops, traditional pubs, and eateries. It's a compact and walkable village, making it easy to stroll to everything you might need during your stay. The village green often hosts local events, and the surrounding lanes are ideal for gentle walks.

Couples looking for a quiet retreat will find the village centre appealing. It offers a charming base for exploring the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, with many scenic walking paths and coastal views just a short drive away. The local pubs provide a lovely setting for an evening meal or a relaxed drink.

Families might prefer accommodation slightly outside the immediate village centre, perhaps in one of the holiday cottages with larger gardens.

The best time to visit Houghton is during the late spring and summer months, from May to September, when the weather is generally at its finest.

During this period, you can expect milder temperatures and longer daylight hours, making it ideal for exploring the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and enjoying outdoor activities. The average daily temperature in July and August hovers around 18-20°C, superb for coastal walks or trips to the beach.

For those interested in marine wildlife, particularly puffins and other seabirds, June and July are peak months to see them nesting on the nearby islands like Skomer and Skokholm. Boat trips run frequently from hubs such as Martin's Haven during this time.

If you prefer to avoid the busiest crowds but still want pleasant weather, May and September are excellent choices. The landscape is still lush, and the main attractions are fully open, but with a slightly more relaxed atmosphere.
