Welcoming, Friendly Lodge
We highly recommend the Hakuba Landmark Happo Lodge. Our hosts we extremely welcoming and helpful during or stay. The rooms were generous in size, the breakfasts western style - every variety of eggs that you could think of, and the lodge is easy walking distance to the ski lift at Happo One or the shuttle service to other resorts.

Although the hotel was very close to the ski lifts but the property maintenance need to be reviewed as I suspect they use to have onsen bathrooms downstairs and the rooms only had tatami mats traditional sleep area as the bathroom design was weird. even though the room was big and the cardboards for the futon beds large the shower and toilet was tiny and there is no space to walk. The shower lights and fan did not work and the floor was taped with patch tap and I am pretty tiny there is no space for you to walk out of the shower without tripping or knocking yourself on the toilet. Also you cannot take off your pants to go to the toilet without hitting your head on the wall so you need to take off your pants outside before you walk in. Why didn't they make the wash basin next to the shower and the toilet where the wash basin outside the room was. Also the light control was next to the door there is no switch next to the bed so you trip over in the darkness to go to bed or turn on the lights. Even though there is a kettle but there is no power point near the table you need to use the power point next to the bed or on the floor next to the door. Breakfast is included and nicely cooked but I am sure 90% of people agree bacon and eggs and bread everyday is a put off especially if you are in Japan. My suggestion is all room design and rearrangement should be reassessed, simple thing as bedside lamp will be nice.

Great place to stay! We picked Hakuba Landmark Happo Lodge as it was a good compromise between location and price. Several minute walk to Happo ski resort and we loved the freshly cooked breakfast every morning!

Excellent staff, comfortable rooms, convenient location and yummy breakfasts. Paul and Tracey and all the staff made us feel very comfortable and went out of their way to assist us in any way possible, eg transfers, lift passes and advice. We loved our stay at Hakuba Landmark Happo Lodge. We hope to return in the future. We thoroughly recommend this property. Thankyou and Kind regards, Peter, Michelle, Brodie & Cooper

No central heating.
Paul and his wife are lovely and breakfast is fine. The problem is the hotel is cold and people are getting sick. The coughing from both adjoining walls was really horrible. The problem is the central heating is broken (how long for?) and only heating is small split system reverse cycle air conditioners in each room and 2 portable gas heaters in dining and one in lounge. This is ok for spring or summer but not -10c Hakuba winter. Paul did bring me Kerosene portable heater (can run 3 hours only then danger) and an extra doona but I couldn't read in bed or lounge without outside clothes. If your young, fit, don't feel cold and getting cheap price stay here, otherwise make sure you book place with proper heating. In Hakuba you need it. We booked for 7 days and moved out after 2. No refund as was informed by owner contract is non refundable.
