Beautifully located in its extensive grounds, this was my first visit. Staff were attentive and helpful at all points. Good food, good service with appropriate gaps and pauses, is important to me. On entering the restaurant I was greeted by staff member Poppy who ensured smooth excellent service. Food, surroundings, service excellent.

This is the 2nd time I have chosen to stay at Wotton House on a visit to the UK. The value is excellent at the rate I got. The lack of uber is a pain so guests need to book taxis in advance. I think this info would be helpful to know as part of the checking-in process! Breakfast is ok, with good choices, especially on the continental side. Bar staff very nice. The room was a good size, although it was very hot. I couldn't see a thermostat, so on the second night, I had a window open all night. There was some light construction going on but nothing to worry about. I would stay again.

We had booked this stay approximately 2 months prior, and spoken to the hotel staff a week prior to attending to add on extras to the room, flowers, champagne etc. No one had mentioned that one area of the hotel was undergoing renovations and there was quite major building work going ahead right next to our room. No one had mentioned the Hot tub in the spa wasn't working either, and had in fact been out of commission for some time, with it expected to be out of commission for several more months. Breakfast was a good standard for the buffet. The 1887 restaurant of an evening looks pretty, but the bench seats in the middle are well past their best, with one person falling through it! The actual food itself was average, which was way below expectations. My meal was cold, it got changed and then was served on a plate so hot the waiter had issues carrying it! Was almost like the chef was pissed off and getting revenge. For the price, the rooms were OK and breakfast was nice, the spa/gym facilities are below average, the restaurant is over priced and the food sub par for that price point. It is a magnificent building, and they obviously get their trade based upon that, although internal décor is tired with peeling paint etc. When we complained we were offered a free upgrade next time we stayed, or £24 off of our bill, the bill for the entire stay was approx £750 including food and drink. It is a shame, as this could be an amazing hotel with some care.

Beautiful setting in countryside. Grounds are pretty to stroll around. Not close to anything to walk to (nearest stores etc are 5-10 minutes away). Quiet rooms. Ours was very basic and quite small. No AC but they had a fan. Remodeled bathroom. Extremely low sink seems to be for a child. There was construction outside our door (installing new flooring). Very congested front desk area with not lots of space. Bar and restaurant were nice. There was a rude female bartender at main bar. Gave her a $20 cash tip in USD for 4 drinks cause that’s all we had (just arrived!) and she said with a frown “it’s American money”. Jose at restaurant was quite friendly and nice. Food was fine and sangria refreshing. This was just a quick stopover. I’d probably not stay here again but glad to have tried it, and will find other places if ever going back.

Really helpful staff, really comfortable room. I would only add that this venue takes lots of wedding bookings (which is because it is so beautiful) and so parking gets a bit choc a block. There's lots to do at the hotel, all of which is very easy to enjoy.

Absolutely stunning place to stay. We had a family room on the 1st floor, and it was extremely quiet. The surrounding grounds are lovely. The hotel itself i thought was very grand. It was my birthday and the staff had put chocolates and a voucher for free ice cream and prosecco in the room, which was a lovely touch. Breakfast was delicious and good quality. Bed was very comfy and we enjoyed our stay.

Alright stay, wouldn’t return.
Had a nice stay here,paid low season rates wouldn’t want to pay peak season rates. The inside of the hotel needs painting, lots of scuff marks and peeled paint on banisters. Breakfast was lovely, lots of choice. Dinner in restaurant was ok. Had fish and chips, you could tell the chips were frozen and were undercooked.

Very convenient to visit family for Christmas. Was awful weather but the hotel was very warm and welcoming, the staff lovely and very helpful. Particularly loved to be able to go for such varied walks straight from the door. Didn't try the pool but maybe next time. Fantastic breakfast offered and gave us a good start to a long trip home to Cornwall.

Beautiful location near the village. Had an issue on my arrival with the offer given. The day before my arrival i was offered dinner with a special discount but wasnt clear what was included. 3 different receptionists gave me 3 different versions which I found very odd. Apart from that had a great stay, very nice room & good food.

Nice room, avoid the restaurant
Booked the superior room which was nice with a huge bathroom and roll-topped bath. The hotel is grand and impressive (and huge) with pleasant communal areas. Check-in was easy and we had no issues with our stay. However, I wouldn't recommend the hotel restaurant, the head waiter was unfriendly and either didn't know or didn't want to answer questions about the menu. And when what I really wanted wasn't directly available, they didn't offer to cook it without the specific ingredient I couldn't eat so I had to have something else. The food was average and the service poor, especially for the price. Also the bar closes early (11pm) for a hotel and as the hotel is in the middle of nowhere there isn't exactly a choice of places to go! Breakfast was OK, the cooked stuff was fine but there wasn't a massive choice of fruit or pastries, although they did offer milk alternatives which was good.

Great start but very dated interiors
The service was amazing, all staff very friendly. However the only downside was the hotel was very dated, our room didn’t look at all like the pictures on the website. The grounds/ outside of the hotel are absolutely fantastic so if the interior was updated I think this hotel would be truly amazing!

A Good Stay
Had a lovely stay at the hotel, very clean, grounds and hotel lovely. Room was tastefully decorated and spacious. Spa small side, jacuzzi not working, but ok for quick swim and chill. Only fault would be Breakfast was bit chaotic, run out of certain items and had to hang around waiting for items to be replenished. We would return, overall a lovely hotel.

The property is lovely, the premium room was worth the extra, the amenities were nice (but frustratingly short windows to access pool/gym/sauna). The English breakfast was fine, not too many healthy options. The inexperienced check out receptionist and often rude staff, however, tarnished the experience—culminating in a harried argument when the receptionist tried to make me double pay for the stay, and couldn’t be convinced otherwise/didn’t understand that I had already paid (even when shown proof)—and she insinuated that I was stupid. When I said we were trying to leave to catch a flight, they didn’t seem to care about the time sensitive nature, and it took ages for another staff member to appear (which was a theme—for a huge property I never saw more than one or two people anywhere).

My wife and I recently stayed at Wotton House and while it’s listed on Expedia as a 3 star hotel what makes it a 5 star hotel is the staff. It’s been a while since we stayed somewhere where everyone was so friendly, helpful and professional. From the staff who answer the phone, to the staff at Reception, the staff in the restaurant and bar and the ladies who clean the rooms - they were all first class. It felt like a family run business they were that good. Yes some areas could do with a bit of a refresh but given the industry has taken a huge hit from the pandemic these can be overlooked. We had a mix up with the rooms when we arrived but Andrew sorted that out within minutes. The room was quiet even though there was a sizeable conference taking place at the same time, the breakfasts were great and my wife said the vegan sandwich was worth the visit alone. They’d stopped offering afternoon tea as we were staying in October but staff did offer to speak to the kitchen to see if something could be arranged but we left it. It was a nice surprise to find hot chocolate packets in the room refreshment offering. The bathroom facilities were good with both a rainfall and hand held shower. The location was perfect as we went so I could enjoy some good cycling climbs. We didn’t try out the pool or other club facilities but the grounds were lovely and we sat outside. We were lucky with the weather as we stayed during the last heatwave in October. We’re looking forward to our next visit.

If looks were everything
From the look of the building and grounds expectations were very high. However, it's just another hangover from the DeVere hotel style. generally it was yesterday, however, they do need to prioritise massively improving the quality of food, menu choices, chef skills and the training and motivation of their restaurant staff. The grounds are fantastic, the old buildings magnificent, the stay could have been so much better.
