Kalk Bay is a quaint fishing village full of quirky shops and eccentric personalities. Surfers take advantage of the crashing waves and bohemian atmosphere here, while holiday makers revel in the upbeat setting. Learn about the intriguing culture and history of this fashionable area with an extensive art scene and eclectic nightlife.

Stroll along the charming Kalk Bay Harbour, which is a functioning marina dating back to 1913. It has many restaurants, shops and an assortment of colourful boats. Enjoy the views of the rocky False Bay coastline, as you peruse the antique stores, second-hand shops and bookshops that make the village such a stylish destination.

In the summer months, Wooley’s Tidal Pool is a popular bathing area. Bring the kids to frolic in this man-made rock pool that makes sea swimming safe and clean. Go surfing on the southeasterly swell of the iconic Kalk Bay Reef.

Peruse the works of art in this cultural hub with trips to Kalk Bay Modern art gallery and MKH - Photography Gallery & Decor. Enjoy seafood from one of the restaurants with views of the harbour.

Visit Rhodes Cottage Museum, where Cecil Rhodes,19th-century British entrepreneur and Prime Minister of the Cape Colony, spent his final years. The cute cottage has a white façade and thatched roof with wonderful ocean views.

Watch the sun descend beyond the horizon, turning the water black. Eat oysters and sip hot drinks or alcoholic beverages as evening falls. Night-time activities include taking tango classes and visiting cocktail bars and nightclubs.

Visit from May to October for a chance to spot whales in the ocean. Gaze westward to the Muizenberg Mountains, where you will find rare sandstone caves.

Overlooking False Bay, Kalk Bay is in the Fish Hoek region of Cape Town’s southwestern suburbs. Take the Southern Line train to Kalk Bay Station and explore the small neighbourhood on foot.
