Our room was spacious and clean. Convenient area to Long Street without all the noise. We actually liked it so much we are staying there again next week in our way home.

I was deeply disappointed and upset to discover that the 9 Barracks Hotel in Cape Town, South Africa, prohibits guests from visiting my room after 8pm. Before making my reservation, I carefully reviewed the house rules and terms and conditions, yet there was no mention of this restriction. Had I known, I certainly would not have booked. As a 61-year-old traveler, I was looking forward to spending quality time with my girlfriend, who lives in Cape Town, but I was not allowed to have her stay in the room I paid for. When I raised the issue, the receptionist simply cited the house rules and refused to contact management to discuss a refund. Consequently, I chose to book a more guest-friendly hotel elsewhere. I strongly believe that this guest policy should be clearly stated in the terms and conditions to avoid such situations. I feel completely misled and will neither return to nor recommend this hotel to anyone traveling with a partner.
For the price I absolutely couldn’t fault it. The room was spotless. Staff were very helpful and allowed me to change my booking after check in to have a friend added to my booking for a small fee.
Great find - room was clean, bed was comfortable, staff are warm and helpful. The breakfast was lovely. I have no complaints - the only issue is that there is a flight of stairs to get from the ground floor where the reception is to the floor where the lift/elevator is. The staff was helpful with bags, but this would be an issue for anyone with mobility concerns, and should be clearly stated in the description of the property.
