A great stay on the Prom Coast. Comfy accommodations. Handy location to access the Prom and beaches of Waratah Bay. Peaceful rural setting - great for escaping the city. Unseasonably warm weather made for great swimming at the beach and in the pool. Would love to visit again.

I stay at quite a few hotels and motels throughout eastern Australia. Some of them are big names and I believe they are dropping the ball cleanliness of rooms and delivery of services. In the past month I have stayed at three small privately owned motels and I have been delighted at what I saw and experienced. This is one of them.
At first glance the Wilsons Promontory Motel appears to be another budget motel but I stayed there for three nights and got to see how the owners and staff take...

We stayed two nights at the hotel because we attended a seminar. We felt very comfortable in the room. The room was large, very clean and well fitted out. It was the best hotel we ever stayed in in Australia.
We just loved it.
The staff were very nice and the breakfast was great.

Clean room. The maintenance staff was really helpful regarding the charging of our ev. Although the place did not have an ev charger, they provided us with an extension cord for the vehicle charging overnight. Thanks for your assistance. We will definitely come back!

Which area of Buffalo is best to stay in for cheap hotels?
For budget-conscious travellers looking for cheap hotels in Buffalo, Victoria, the town centre and areas slightly outside the immediate heart of town often present the best value. These locations offer convenient access to amenities and attractions without the premium prices sometimes associated with prime spots.
Solo travellers will find that staying in the central area allows them to easily walk to local eateries and shops, reducing transportation costs. Many guesthouses and motels in Buffalo offer straightforward, affordable rooms that are great for a single traveller. You'll often find these establishments provide basic but comfortable amenities, allowing you to save money for experiences like exploring the nearby national parks or enjoying a meal at a local pub.
Families might consider accommodations a little further out from the very centre. These areas can sometimes offer slightly larger rooms or self-catering options at a better price point, which is ideal for managing a family budget. Staying a short drive from the main street means you can still access all the town has to offer, while potentially enjoying a quieter setting and more space.
When is the most affordable time to visit Buffalo?
The most affordable time to visit Buffalo, Victoria, is during the shoulder seasons, specifically autumn (March to May) and spring (September to November), when crowds are smaller and prices for accommodation and activities tend to be lower. While summer (December to February) brings the warmest weather, it also marks peak tourist season, leading to higher costs. Winter (June to August) can be quiet and budget-friendly, but some outdoor activities might be limited due to cooler temperatures.
For solo travellers, visiting in autumn or spring allows for a more relaxed experience, with opportunities to explore the natural beauty of the region without the summer rush. You'll find better deals on guesthouses and B&Bs, and local eateries may offer more competitive pricing. It's also a great time for hiking and enjoying the scenic landscapes, often for free.
Families can also benefit from these shoulder seasons, as the milder weather is pleasant for outdoor adventures without the intensity of summer heat.
What free activities should we do in Buffalo?
Buffalo, Victoria, offers a surprising array of free activities, superb for solo travellers looking to experience the local charm without spending a fortune. You'll find plenty to occupy your time, from exploring natural landscapes to soaking in the town's history.

Here, you can wander along well-maintained walking tracks, enjoying the peaceful bushland and spotting local wildlife. Another excellent option is to explore the scenic Buffalo River by foot; many trails follow its banks, offering picturesque views and a chance for quiet contemplation.
History buffs will enjoy a self-guided tour of Buffalo's historical sites. The town boasts several heritage-listed buildings, and a stroll through the main street reveals fascinating architecture from bygone eras. Look out for the old railway station and the historic general store, which offer a glimpse into Buffalo's past.
