"When we arrived we saw immediately that the sofabed in the lounge was broken and could not be used to sit or sleep on, this was disappointing as it meant there were not enough beds for us all. "Check-in was excellent. The staff were warm, welcoming, and attentive from the moment we arrived, making us feel at home straight away. The process was smooth and efficient, and it was a lovely surprise that they had noted we were celebrating a birthday and acknowledged it on arrival. That thoughtful touch made our stay feel even more special. Service throughout our stay was consistently excellent and much appreciated. The hotel could improve by making the room service menu available within the online guest guidebook instead of directing guests to contact reception. It is also worth noting that the advertised cigar and fine spirits den is not currently available, which may be disappointing for guests expecting this facility."

"We came over from Germany and having lived in the NorthEast a few years back we know about living in England. This is a well made up hotel inside a very old (probably listed) building hence has it charming quirks while coming across modern. Room clean, tea&coffee with bikkies on offer, bathroom well done (the usual damp spots, loose screws and peeled painting spots or painted shut windows give it the “character” we know, but it’s clean and has a mix tap over the sink AND bathtub/shower!) Breakfast was continental on a table guests needed to ask for refills quite a bit, but it came promptly. Ordered breakfast (full english or pancakes or scrambled egg & bread) was filling! The long weekend wasn’t cheap but we were on holiday and not on an english salary for foreigners anymore so could afford it these days! All in all we stayed 3 nights as a family of 3 and ate in the restaurant 2 evenings too which was a nice both times. Staff all friendly!"

"Location was perfect. 4 min walk from train station and close to all shops, bars and restaurants. Bar in hotel was first class with extremely helpful staff who were always very friendly. Stayed during heatwave so the lack of air con, or a window that would open, were disappointing. Standing fan in room helped but sometimes just blew hot air around. Room in loft so was very hot. Decor/furniture very basic and dated but bed very comfortable. Bathroom needs some tlc - position of shower in bath quite dangerous. Overall, I enjoyed it but was it value for money? No, probably not."

"Mucha limpieza en la habitación. El desayuno bueno. Muy atentas las personas de recepción y servicio. La habitación muy pequeña. Se escuchan muchos ruidos de otras habitaciones . El hotel está retirado de Durham y de Newcastle, sin embargo es una opción de mejor precio con respecto a los hoteles de Durham."

"What a great find, ideal for Radio 1 Big Weekend.Arrived on Thursday night to easy check-in.The apartment was on fourth floor - luckily there is a lift.The apartment was clean and has a homely feel.The kitchen is well equipped, not that we really spent much time cooking. There was tea towels, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid. We were a little dubious about the mattress on the beds as they are quite soft, but we slept really well and I didn’t struggle with my back - so big bonus.The bathroom was clean and had hand soap already which is fab. The bath towels were lovely and proper big bath towels. Across the road is an Asda garage and Greggs - don’t know what they are like so can’t comment. But ideal if you forget anything. We would definitely stay again - if coming up to the area."
