There are walking and jogging tracks along the Yarra River just opposite the Rendezvous Hotel Melbourne. Rowing is also available on the Yarra. The nearest children's playground is at Southbank across the river (500 metres). There is swimming at the City Baths in Swanston Street (1 km). “Good for a short stay”

The only problem with the hotel was the size of the bathroom! if you sat on the toilet your feet were in the shower & when you showered the toilet gets wet!!!!!!! it's a lovely hotel for a short stay!!

“convenient to everything”

on Finders street go left 1st corner Elisabeth street this has 7/11, Mc Donalds, pizza shop(sells single slices) 24 hrs open. Keep going up Flinders street next corner is pub Young and Jacksons good atmosphere, serves snack food, & live bands, top deck bar can smoke. across the road from hotel is railway station. Get TRAM ticket from 7/11 they do an all day Sunday deal(Sunday Saver for approx $3)

“Middle class”

The hotel location was good enough to go china town and shopping malls,and internet service of 3 hour free access was very good for me. However, the room we stayed was not comfortable than expected because the bath room was small and the pressure of shower was weak.

“Great location - very convenient to everything”

Hotel provides everything you need; rooms are compact but efficient and comfortable. Lots of character about this hotel. Close to good cafes for breakfast lunch & dinner. Only negative is thoughtless behaviour by flight crews and tour people making unnecessary noise when they arrive late at night or leave early in the morning.

Area recommendations

I like the Flinders street area as it is central to shopping, restaurants, easy access to transport.

Getting around

Familiarise yourself with the tram system and buy a Metcard from the 711 store - it is the best way to get around Melbourne.

“Convenient but carpet needs cleaning”

This restored hotel is full of character & charm and, being right opposite Flinders Street station & a 10 minute walk to the Exhibition & Convention Centre, is conveniently located. The staff are personable & willing to go out of their way to assist. On all of those accounts I would recommend Rendezvous Hotel to a friend. However, I would have felt more comfortable if the carpets & furniture in the central lobby were not so obviously grubby. Or perhaps it was the fact that I did not have a great sleep due to the noise of the air-conditioner & the constant banging of doors which seemed to echo through the whole building.

“Hotel good but the room was not that flash”

The Hotel was a lovely old place in a very good position for touring Melbourne, however, we were not overly impressed with the room. The view was less than impressive looking out onto the roofs of other buildings as well as a white wall and the backs of other buildings. The other issues was the layout of the hotel room which has the TV cabinet at right angles to the bed. To watch the TV we had to pull the heavy wall unit out from the wall.

“Very Happy with the Hotel Rendezvous Melbourne!”

Very Happy with the Hotel Rendezvous Melbourne! Fantastic location, right in the heart of the CBD, very close to Flinders Street Station, MCG, and Crown Complex. Staff were helpful, polite and honest. Highly recommend this hotel and will be hoping to stay here again when I am back in Melbourne next.

“not a family spot”

A great spot for business or couples due to proximity to the city centre, trams & station and shopping but I had my 11 yr old daughter with me and it wasn't ideal with the nearby 'gentlemans' club, seedy part of the station across the road and rather rough sort of club nearby with drunks that kept us awake with screaming and yelling until 3am on Saturday. Staff were good but for our purposes the restaurant was way too expensive for more than one night's meal - room service was pricey too and staying in the room at night to watch a movie wasn't all that pleasant as the room was small and overlooked some dingy allyway/drain area. By day it was dark in the room. Adults out and about wouldn't be effected but with kids an early night in wasn't that good.

Area recommendations

Degraves Lane is good for coffee and a meal and to feel like you're in the hustle and bustle. We picked up a self-guided walking tour from the info centre in Federation Square which took us through all the laneways and arcades - highly recommend it if you like cafes, shops, history and want to fill in a morning or afternoon. Watch out for Flinders station end of Elizabeth street at night if you have children - a bit rough!

Getting around

The free tram is really crowded - try it once but then think about a pay tram as the tickets are cheap or within the city a taxi - which often ended up the same or cheaper than trams!

Family-friendly activities

With kids catch the tram from Swanson St outside Finders station to St Kilda and go to Luna Park (pay for rides not entry) and then down the main street to the pastry shops which will send most kids into realms of delight - so much choice! My daughter loved degraves Street area and squishing into some little cafe with all the local students and business people in the area - there weren't many kids so she felt quite with-it! Good coffee for me too.
