This small town in the hinterland brings thousands of visitors to its bi-weekly markets, where more than 500 stalls sell fresh produce, art, fashion and souvenirs.

The town of Eumundi is famous for its markets, which happen twice a week. More than 500 stalls sell everything from locally grown fruit and vegetables to furniture, beauty products, arts and crafts and fashion. The historic town in the Sunshine Coast’s hinterland also features old buildings, independent art galleries and cafés serving organic fare.

Eumundi has a population of just over 800 people. On Wednesdays and Saturdays the sleepy town comes alive with thousands of shoppers visiting the markets. Buy freshly baked bread, fruit and vegetables and bunches of flowers. Browse row after row of stalls run by local artisans who sell their paintings, glassware and jewellery at affordable prices. Enjoy your spoils from various market stalls as you go or find a seat at one of the cafés and eat and drink to the sound of street performers. Musicians from all over the region entertain the crowds. The market lies under huge heritage-listed fig trees in the centre of town.

If you can’t make it on a Wednesday or Saturday, Eumundi has plenty more to offer than just the markets. Browse the town’s funky cafés and shops. Eumundi has made a name for itself as an artistic hub and art galleries line the main street. Look up at the façades of heritage buildings. You can learn more about the history of the area at the Discover Eumundi Heritage and Visitor Centre, which has free admission.

Eumundi lies in the Sunshine Coast hinterland 30 minutes’ drive from Noosa Heads. Many local tour operators run shuttle bus services from major hubs along the coast to the Eumundi Markets. Drivers can pay to park in the huge car park adjacent to the market. There is plenty of free street parking on days the market isn’t on.

Come as part of a daytrip from anywhere on the Sunshine Coast or stay at the historic Eumundi Pub. You’ll also find plenty of small resorts and lodges in the surrounding hinterland.
