Palace Hotel & Spa Buxton

Palace Hotel & Spa Buxton

8/10 Good
"We stayed for 2 nights, the hotel looks very nice from the outside & the foyer is well maintained. The room was fit for purpose, there is no room service while we stayed & if towels or extra coffee are needed then reception needs to be contacted. The bed was king size, but it was 2 beds pushed together, but was comfortable for staying there. The parking is extra, £5 per 24 hours, & the car park is big, so we had no issues with parking, although if an event was on, it may fill up quickly. The hotel is also close to the railway station & the town centre is easy to walk to."

8/10 Good
"Good location for walking into Matlock Bath, 20 minute easy flat walk. Hotel has an on site Indian restaurant and bar but we weren’t aware so didn’t eat there as we had booked somewhere in town. Staff very friendly and helpful. Parking was good on hotel premises. Didn’t have breakfast so can’t comment. It’s not luxury but a good hotel in a good location with parking which is difficult to find in the area."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Sheen?
The best areas to stay in Sheen are East Sheen for a local experience with good amenities, and Mortlake for its riverside setting and good transport links.East Sheen, often referred to simply as "Sheen," is a residential area known for its high street, Upper Richmond Road West. This road is lined with independent shops, cafes, and restaurants, providing a pleasant environment for a relaxed stay. It's well-connected by bus routes and has a local train station, Mortlake, on its northern edge, making it easy to get around.Families often find East Sheen an excellent choice due to its proximity to Richmond Park, one of London's largest green spaces. The park offers vast open areas for walks, cycling, and spotting deer, providing plenty of outdoor activities for all ages. The local high street also has family-friendly eateries and shops.Mortlake, bordering the River Thames, offers a different appeal. It has a more historic feel with some lovely riverside pubs and walks along the towpath. Mortlake Green is a popular local spot, and the area is home to the historic Mortlake Brewery site, which is currently undergoing redevelopment.Couples looking for a peaceful retreat with good transport into central London will appreciate Mortlake. The riverside setting provides scenic walks, and there are several charming pubs with outdoor seating overlooking the Thames.
When is the best time to go to Sheen?
For most travellers, the best time to visit Sheen is during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) months.During these periods, the weather is generally pleasant with milder temperatures and less rainfall than the summer or winter. This makes it ideal for exploring the local parks, such as Richmond Park, which is easily accessible from Sheen and great for a leisurely stroll or bike ride. You'll also find the gardens of nearby historic homes, like Kew Gardens, in full bloom or displaying beautiful autumnal colours.Couples often appreciate these shoulder seasons for a more relaxed experience. The crowds are typically smaller than in the peak summer months, allowing for a more intimate visit to local attractions and restaurants along Sheen Lane and Upper Richmond Road West. It's a great time to enjoy a quiet afternoon tea or explore the independent shops without feeling rushed.Families travelling with younger children might also find these times preferable.
