8/10 Good
"hi, it was good but we had dinner and the food was small for the price. Water and free coffee machine. We asked for a car to the airport and the price quoted by reception was nearly four times what an uber cost and about an about twenty bucks more than the airport taxis so although the staff were very helpful, the hotel is definitely making it's money."

Hotel Santo Tomás

Hotel Santo Tomás

8/10 Good
"The inside of the hotel was safe and clean. Beautiful woodwork throughout. It was formerly a coffee plantation owners home and has been restored as such. The pool area was really nice, with places to relax and meet up. Comfortable rooms and linens with friendly staff. 3 options for fresh cooked-to-order breakfast. Important to note though that we were told breakfast started at 7:00, but that is the time to order. One morning we were first there and did not get served until 7:45. If you have an early morning tour scheduled, plan accordingly. Important also: we did not feel safe walking around the area of the hotel after dark, and were told that by our Uber driver. We felt that way about most of San Jose. As I mentioned though, the hotel and parking area is gated. Would recommend the hotel with those things in mind. Short walk from the museums and teatro."

When is the best time for a budget trip to Santiago?
Weather is probably a major factor when you plan your trip to Santiago, but bear in mind that cheaper options are usually available when the weather isn't as good. The hottest months are usually April and March, with an average temperature of 19°C, while the coldest months are February and January, with an average of 18°C. The rainiest months in Santiago are October, June, August and September, with each month seeing an average of 599 mm of rainfall.
What is there to see and do in Santiago?
You don't have to spend a lot to get to know Santiago. You can budget for the top local attractions on your list, and then plan some activities that cost very little. Take in the local culture at Cartago Municipal Museum and Iglesia de San José Orosi, or visit other spots like Museo de San José Orosi.
How can I get to Santiago and get around on a budget?
Looking at these ways to get around Santiago can help keep you on budget. The most convenient airport is San José (SYQ-Tobías Bolaños Intl.), situated 23.2 mi (37.4 km) away. If that doesn't suit your budget, you can arrange flights in and out of San José (SJO-Juan Santamaría Intl.), which is 28.3 mi (45.6 km) away. Santiago may not have many public transport choices so a car rental could be a reasonable alternative to explore the area.
