Explore this centrally located parkland, where you can climb to spectacular lookout points, ice skate on a frozen lake or enjoy oak-tree scenery.

Mount Royal Park sits around a group of mountains in the centre of Montréal, providing a convenient green space for outdoor activities. Explore nearly 190 hectares (470 acres) of lawns, tree-lined paths and oak forests. Admire panoramic views from elevated lookouts and take the kids to the ice-skating rink.

Approach the park from Peel Street to the east and climb a zigzagging path to a chalet that has sat atop the mountain since 1932. Walk south and find the Kondiaronk lookout, whose name derives from a great Huron chief. The view spans the skyscrapers of Montreal's business district, which are spectacularly lit up each night.

Hike up one of Mont Royal's three summits for unique panoramas of the city. The highest peak rises 233 metres (764 feet) above sea level and has a 360-degree lookout over the park. From below, spot the 30.5 metre (100-foot) cross that is perched atop the mountain. This feature, built in 1934, can be seen from all around Montreal.

Southwest, another summit sits in the Westmount district. Colloquially known as "petite montagne" (little mountain), this hill is separated from the larger peaks. Enjoy sweeping views of western Montreal from its lookout.

Spend an afternoon at Beaver Lake enjoying a range of activities. Walk around the banks under trees that line the shore. Visit in winter, when the frozen water is transformed into an ice-skating rink. Rent skates at the pavilion and glide over the icy surface with hundreds of Montrealers who come every winter afternoon. If you are feeling energetic, rent some cross-country skis and glide along the flat, open snowlands. Tobogganing is also very popular with locals.

In warmer months, rent a bike from The Beaver Lake Pavilion and tour the many pathways of the park.

Find Mount Royal Park adjacent to Remembrance Road, where you'll also find plenty of parking. Alternatively, catch a bus into the park interior or along the southern edge. The park does not charge admission.
