Hilton Grand Vacations Club Ocean Tower Waikoloa Village
6/10 Okay
"The hotel was a little more run down than I remember. The tram did not go all the way to our tower that we stayed in (ocean tower) so that was quite some walking that we had to do with 3 children. Especially since there was only one working tram, if you missed it, it was a 15-17 min wait for it to come back around.
Boats were down so the tram is the only transportation to go from tower to tower unless you would like to get your 10,000 steps in.
My kids did enjoy the resort itself but the walking after 3 nights and 4 days was a lot.
Food is extremely pricey and not worth it so you have to go off site to queens, kings or up to the village to get a nice bite to eat.
The bell service was really nice. The burger at Kona pool was great for $23. Overall is was an “okay to very nice” stay "
"So many wonderful pools, but especially loved the adults-only pool. Staff was always friendly and helpful. Resort area was beautiful and well maintained. Our King Bed Junior Suite was spacious and had a large modern bathroom with large walk-in shower, as well as a good-size kitchen space, bedroom space, living room space, and an in-unit washer and dryer, which was truly appreciated. The balcony was also very nice. There was a shuttle which made it very convenient to get around the resort when we didn't wish to drive ourselves. Even the golf cart utility vehicles offered to give rides. Two shopping malls with a nice variety of restaurants and stores were conveniently located on property. Location was close to beaches and to highways that we could easily access to take drives to other cities and sights on the Big Island. We would definitely stay at this resort again!"
"It’s a very nice place. The rooms are very nice and comfortable. A resort hotel should be 100% operational. The boats don’t work anymore. The tram only serves two sections of the hotel. The food options are limited and of low quality for the cost. A $50 plate of pasta should never arrive at a table cold. Lunch and dinner options are limited. Paying the price for a meal here should be remembered as amazing, not blah, blah, blah. The breakfast buffet is overpriced. The Luau was a great show, the food was pretty good. Standing in line in the heat for 45 minutes is ridiculous. Elderly people need places to sit in the line. Put some benches along the walkway. The lagoon was amazing. The prices for using water toys is ridiculous. Majority sat unused due to the high cost. Management were very attentive. Carter was especially helpful to address any concerns raised. The staff were very friendly and respectful. "

"Kohala Lodge is not just a place to stay, it is a destination. If you visit the Big Island, it is one of the bucket-list experiences you must have. Scenic, tranquil, magical all come to mind. Sit on the expansive front porch and contemplate that you are on an island in the Pacific with a view of Maui in the distance. Feed the animals with pellets provided by the owner. When the breeze gets quite cool, you can build a fire in the stone fireplace with wood provided by the owner. I did not cook, so I cannot comment on that experience. Instead, the charming little town of Havi is easy to access with excellent fare at the Kohala market. For the adventurous, there is sky-diving nearby, or just feed your soul relaxing at the lodge."
Puako Beach + Sunsets. Feel the Sea Breeze, Hear Calming Surf. Steps to Beach
10/10 Excellent
"Great location for snorkeling or diving. Hapuna Beach was a hit for the kids! 2 hours to Kilauea and Hilo. No A/C. Fridge has been replaced with a larger one from the welcome video which is great! Grilling on the deck was great. Mosquitos were definitely an issue in mid-April - so plan ahead with bug spray and don't plan on eating on the porch ;)Puako area has been overrun by sea urchins unfortunately due to overfishing (more urchins per sq/m than anywhere else in the world - sad state of affairs for our coral reefs these days but that has nothing to do with the property ;)"
