Very nice place to stay if you want to be a little away from the crowd. Still very easy to get to numerous places to eat and walking distance to a number of temples and shrines. Very nice staff and delicious breakfast.

Liked: Staff & service
Disliked: Room comfort
No elevator, very weak wifi (not private), bit old. Nice room size, there is onsen
Good location that is close to various attractions in Gion. Metro and bus station options not too far. Good dining options for breakfast and lunch. Dinner options in area needs some planning in advance and for some places prebooking arrangements.
The property was in a great location for walking to many of the major locations I wanted to see. Within 20 to gion and most everything is 10-15 minutes away including the philosophers path and the subway station. The staff where nice and helped us carry our luggage and were overall very helpful. I would definitely stay here again another year!
Unexpectedly, I enjoyed a big bath! The room I stayed was clean and tidy, and the staff was kind and heartwarming!!

This hotel was nicely located near Keage Incline, philosopher’s path and the temples in the hills. Also, close to public transport and 7-11!!!
Our room was quiet and cozy. It had extra mats, so we doubled ours and were more comfortable!
Staff was always polite and friendly. Nice stay!
Situated in a very quiet part of the city but not too far from the central area full of shops, restaurants and interesting sites. The rooms are in typical Japanese style, sliding doors, futon and a low coffeetable with pillows to sit on instead of chairs. All in all a great real experience.
I don't think there is a better location in Kyoto to stay. You are away from the busier spots in Kyoto and the mountains are just a walk away. Getting up in the mornings and getting to explore right outside the hotel was very exciting. Great staff and quiet, clean rooms. Would highly recommend!
Staff was great and friendly - hotel was clean and comfortable - great area within walkable distance from several temples, shrines, and museums. Will definitely stay here again. 10/10. 5 stars
Slightly old fashioned but spacious, clean and comfortable room. Lovely location in the east of the city near to beautiful canal and close to subway. Ideal for sightseeing on foot in that area of the city. No lift but not an issue for us. Lovely staff who spoke English. Would definitely stay there again if visiting Kyoto.

It stands near Heian‐jingu shrine. Very convenient to visit several famous sightseeing spots around there. But,they don't have any lifts is one of their weak points.
The staff was attentive and kind. They tried their best to use English so that my partner would understand the conversation. I was even allowed to leave my luggage in order to explore on the day I was meant to checkout.
We stayed at this property in 2016, and returned for our most recent trip in March 2025. The property had been renovated in that time and clearly updated throughout. Something to consider when booking this hotel is that there is no elevator. However, we didn’t find that it affected our stay at all, since the accommodations were perfectly clean and quiet. Rooms are pretty spacious and the set breakfast is delicious! Keep in mind you'll need to let the front desk know the night before if you want breakfast the next day.
Easy access to transportation and tons of shrines nearby. Restaurants are a little more on the expenside side in this part of Kyoto, but there are lots of convenience stores nearby and even a 7/11 on the corner.
We look forward to staying here again in the future, and can't say enough wonderful things about the sweet owners of this inn!
