"A great hotel. It is modern, comfortable, clean, quiet, and in a great location. The service is among the best we have had anywhere, better than hotels that cost twice as much. Every member of the staff that we encountered was amazing. The restaurant and restaurant staff is also terrific. "

"We felt absolutely spoiled here. The room was spacious, spotless, and so comfortable. Easy to find cabs and the bus was just outside giving easy access. Good restaurants within walking distance though not in the thick of things. Definitely recommend."

"Good experience with the Japanese traditional style house, modern combined with zen style, not far with anywhere you want to go, great for a small family."

"Had a wonderful stay at the Miro Kyoto/Calm Castle Nijo Hotel. It's a small hotel located in a residential street. The family room is not as big as typical western rooms but has been the perfect size for me and my family. Try to pack light so you can have space and less of a hassle bringing luggage. They do luggage receiving so there is that option.
The rooms are clean and good. The beds and pillows are comfy (not as soft as western standards) and was fine for me and my family. We had a sink and a small stove in our room but was not able to use them.
The hotel also has a charming communal area where you can cook your own breakfast complete with utensils and dishes. Was not able to use them as we had very early itineraries everytime. They also have a washing macine free to use, but no dryer. Instead you dry your clotges in your bathroom with its "Drying" function. Works well enough for our uses.
The one thing I love about the hotel is that it's within a residential and shopping district. The shopping district has many dining and convenience options (groceries, conbini, 100 yen store!). Theres even a laundromat. I love the local feel of the area and the market and wish I could spend more time and try the shops and restaurants. You can feel and see a glimpse of the daily life of the residents.
Will definitelty stay here again if given the chance to visit Kyoto again. Thank you Calm Castle team!"
"It is a bit out of the way, a 15 min walk from the closest subway station but very close to a variety of bus stops- it’s about a 30 min transit ride to go to any of the tourist attractions. The rooms were large for Japanese standards which is great if you’re travelling with a lot of luggage. The carpets were a bit dirty and it would’ve been nice if there were extra pillows and they replenished waters overnight but overall a good stay for a good price. "
"Fantastic hotel located near a subway line and one subway stop from Kyoto station. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Upon check in you are served with a welcome beverage. The room comfortably accommodated three of us and our luggage. Wonderful property and I would happily stay there again."
