Enjoy the calming influence of this garden oasis, which is home to roses, tropical plants and frequent concerts, in central Gothenburg.

Find a calm space just a short way from the city’s central station in the Garden Society of Gothenburg. This park is a celebration of exotic trees and plants and is one of the best-maintained 19th-century gardens in Europe. Learn about Swedish horticulturists of the 19th century, take in the scents of the rose garden and enjoy plants from a more tropical climate.

The Trädgårdsföreningen (Garden Society) chose this green space for their activities after the society was founded in 1842. Its intended purpose was to be a meeting place for passionate botanists and gardeners. Here they could exchange ideas and methods and discuss plant species in cafés and social areas of the park.

The Rose Garden is home to around 4,000 plants. Around half of all rose species can be found here. Visit in early summer to see the flowers at their most colourful. Visitors in August may also witness a second blooming.

Wonder at a variety of plants from all around the globe in the Palmhouse. This greenhouse was built in 1878 to create a home for species from five different continents. Its dome roof and iron decorations were designed to mirror London’s Crystal Palace.

The Camelia House makes for a spectacular sight in spring and autumn when the flowers are in bloom. Enjoy the water garden at its best in the summer months when the water lilies are open. Head to the Tropical Area and enjoy palm fronds and bromeliads year-round.

Pause for a break and enjoy a drink at one of the park’s cafés. For a meal, stop by one of the park’s restaurants, which are open most days. Check the events schedule before your visit for a chance to see one of the many concerts and theatre performances that are hosted here.

Walk to the park from Gothenburg’s Central Station. You can access the Garden Society of Gothenburg by entrances at Slussgatan, Nya Allén and Södra Vägen. The park is free to enter and open daily.
