Take a day to experience the fun of this inner-city theme park with its gardens, classic fair rides and Europe’s tallest free fall.

Swerve, soar and plummet in the adrenaline-charged Liseberg Amusement Park. This entertainment centre is home to Europe’s tallest free-fall ride and the well-known Balder wooden roller coaster, as well as dance and concert halls for live music. There are also restaurants and the peace and quiet of a local Botanic Garden.

Since it opened in 1923, Liseberg Amusement Park has become one of Scandinavia’s most popular theme parks. With some 50 attractions, including modern roller coasters and classic fair rides, it is also one of the region’s largest.

Thrill seekers should head to the AtmosFear, the most adrenaline-pumping attraction in the park. This free-fall ride was built over the original Liseberg Tower and is today one of Europe’s tallest free-fall towers. When the count down ends, plummet at G-force 4 from a height of 116 metres (380 feet) in less than 4 seconds. For more thrills, take a ride on the old-fashioned wooden Balder roller coaster, which has plenty of fast twist and turns.

Younger kids will love some of the park’s calmer rides. Rotate on the teacup ride, race around in dodgem cars or get a great view of the city from the Ferris wheel.

In the evenings, shift your attention to the main stage and dance hall, where you’ll be treated to live bands that play frequently during the summer.

In the holiday season, Christmas decorations turn the park into a winter wonderland. Delight in an ice show, sleigh rides and themed food stalls that are framed beneath millions of sparkling Christmas lights.

Stop for a meal at one of many food stalls around the park. Try reindeer hotdogs, a local delicacy.

Liseberg Amusement Park is open from April to October and again during the festive season in December. Get to Liseberg on foot, by tram or by car from central Gothenburg. There is an admission fee for everyone except children less than 110 centimetres (43 inches) tall. Many attractions have height restrictions and require payment per ride.
