If you're not prepared, airports and flying can be daunting. But there's no need to worry. Follow these handy tips and enjoy a comfortable start to your time in Zion. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• Travelling on a plane can be a pleasure if you've got all the right things. First of all you'll need basic toiletry items, such as deodorant and a toothbrush, a clean set of clothes and a good read. Next, find a spot in your carry-on bag for your electronic devices, chargers, your medications and maybe a comfy neck pillow too. • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a potential risk on long-haul flights. It results from blood clotting due to inactivity and poor circulation, so do some gentle foot and leg exercises in your seat and consider wearing compression socks or tights.

• Security personnel first need to establish that you have a valid ID and travel documents before you can proceed any further. Have them close by, ready for inspection.
• After that, both you and your carry-on luggage will be X-rayed. To speed things up, remove anything that might set the alarms off. Personal belongings like your jacket, belt and headphones will be required to go through the machine.
• Electronic devices like phones and laptops will also have to go on a tray to be scanned. Don't worry though, you'll be back online before you know it.
• Travelling with your favourite perfume? Not a problem. As long as the volume is no greater than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) and it's stored in a clear zip-lock bag, you can keep it with you on board.
• Lightweight sneakers are a good footwear choice as you're less likely to be required to remove them when going through security. Big boots and other heavy shoes are often subjected to extra screening.
• Take all prohibited items out of your carry-on bag. If you have any sharp objects like a pocket knife or tools, put them in your checked suitcase. They won't be allowed on board.
