• Deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by extended periods of inactivity, can be a risk on long-haul flights. Try to walk around the cabin and stretch your legs or do some gentle exercises in your seat to promote better circulation.

• Your travel documents and passport will need to be inspected by security personnel. Keep them handy so you don't hold up the line.

• Choosing your footwear wisely can save you valuable minutes. Boots and heavy shoes are often required to be removed and separately scanned. Slip-on shoes are usually not.
• Airlines will not allow any sharp objects in the cabin. If you must bring these kinds of items, check them in.
