I liked this property and it offered everything needed for a short comfortable stay. The only criticism was the shower. It was impossible not to make a mess as there was no shower curtain and the whole floor, toilet etc got wet. This is easily fixed by installing a ceiling mounted track to hang a shower curtain on. Otherwise the hosts were very hospitable and their dog Bruce was a real bonus. Loved him.

Comfortable place to stay in great location - near variety of cafes and restaurants and across the road from the beach. Only downside was that the only access to the room was through the owner's front door - no private access.

Birthday weekend
A lovely night away to celebrate my birthday! Have stayed here before and can’t beat it for location. Walking distance to all the eateries, shops and beach.

The property is high quality, the hosts are very friendly and provide excellent service and the views of the sunrise and sunset from the sitting room are magnificent. Highly recommend staying here if you come to Sumner.

Comfortable and convenient
Lovely comfortable room, everything is high quality and immaculately clean. The host Gayle is delightful and very helpful. Sumner village is a short walk away, with lots of cafe and restaurant options. Easy and convenient bus service close by that takes you direct to Christchurch city centre.

Great location and across the street from beach—not on the beach like I thought from pictures. Very clean and amazing bathroom. Map quest lists as B&B which it is not. Wonderful beach access (sunrise not seen from this beach)

Excellent, a real find!
This was the nicest place we stayed on our short trip round South Island.. The room was exceptional, very smart and clean and separate from the owners house. Location is just across from the beach with a bar and excellent restaurant very close by.

Everything we needed was available in a short walking distance. The beach and ocean across the road. The location could not have been better. Guest house with a private patio was wholly appreciated. Hosts were accommodations, friendly and provided knowledge of the area. Would definitely return.

Perfect Location

Cave Rock a Wonderful Stay
It was wonderful. Our Host Gail was most gracious. We had the ground flour unit by the grage. It had glass door's and window's all the way across the front of the unit. A small patio with grill and chairs if one was so inclined. There was a lattice wall full of flowers, pots of roses and other blooming stuff. Just across the street was Cave Rock with a wonderful view of the beach. A restaurant with ice cream bar on the beach side. Back across the road was another restaurant and ice cream bar. Even though it was their fall there it was wonderful on the beach and both restaurants and ice cream bars were open and doing a good business. We ate at both restaurants and their food was really good. Just a short walk away is a small shopping plaza. With two more restaurants. One was Mexican. We loved it and would freely stay again. We were accepted as family with our own room to go and stay at will. Thanks Gail for our stay.

Beautiful upstairs apartment with beach view
We had a wonderful experience here. The upstairs is a wonderfully furnished apartment with a porch-room looking out onto the beach--lovely place for drinking tea, reading, and relaxing. Landscaping and garden area was really nice. Beach offers great walking and exploring, but swimming is a bit more limited. There are other beaches close by that may be better for swimming. The hosts were great. When one of our party's luggage didn't arrive, they offered up personal space for an extra night while we waited. Really down-to-earth, lovely Kiwi's!
