"A wonderful find. More of a bed and breakfast on a working farm. Room is not very big but it does have a private bathroom. The hosts offer a lovely continental breakfast included, as well as parking. It is very quiet and restful. Chickens often cross your path. There is also a working mill which generates power. The host is very nice. There is a an excellent restaurant a 5 minute drive away called Chenin, suggested by the host. Not to be missed."

"This is, by far, the nicest most unique home we have EVER stayed in. The photos were accurate as was the property description. The home looks like it's been recently renovated with nice appliances and furniture. The location was in walking distance to town. The only negative was a marathon taking place our first day there and the city seemed to block every street. We also had a lot of difficulty trying to figure out how to use the washer and dryer. The washer was set to a 30- minute wash and it took 2 hours and didn't wring the clothing much. The dryer kept shutting off every 3-5 minutes and not drying the clothing. We ended up air drying. Instructions in English would be wonderful, otherwise the home was fantastic!"

The kitchen was stocked with everything one could want. Marie Cécile was a gracious and generous hosts. The breakfast items provided were plentiful. The location is well-suited to visiting vignerons and châteaux in the region."

"Charming small hotel with fantastic hospitality! Our top-floor room was spacious, bright, and featured lovely exposed wooden beams. The property features a lovely, peaceful inner courtyard where you can relax or enjoy a meal. Breakfast was simple yet high quality, featuring fresh breads and homemade items such as cake, jam, and yogurt. The location is extremely convenient for exploring the Loire Valley, situated perfectly right between the eastern and western parts of the region. Overall, excellent value for money. Highly recommended!"

16th century hunting lodge - Château de Nitray

"This was our first stop in a 12-day multi-generational trip. Chateau de Nitray is pretty. The flowers were in bloom and we were welcomed each morning by the property horses. We appreciated having four bedrooms and found the beds to be one of the highlights of the place. They were SO comfortable! Awesome location.When you book a "16th Century Hunting Lodge," you have to expect that it's going to be more rustic than a hotel. Things like cracked tiles/plaster, creaky stairs, low beams, a tiny kitchen, etc. - no problem. Unfortunately, the listing suggests a marriage of traditional and modern conveniences, but it doesn't quite deliver. Yes, there's plumbing and electricity and even WiFi, but there were also bugs (spiders, ants, moths, flies), dead and alive, mildew, and a feeling that was more cabin than house. The stairs were unnerving enough that we kept our luggage on the first floor to minimize trips up and down.I think they could balance some of that with some warmer welcoming touches - a note, water, local snacks, etc. We couldn't even find paper towels. The property staff also seemed confused to find us on site and kept trying to tell us they were closed. Those little things make a difference.This isn't reflected in my rating, but we were disappointed that the chateau was closed and we were unable to visit. Overall, I think this is a really cool option, especially for those who like more rustic accomodations. I just think the listing could be more transparent."
