The Lansdowne, Eastbourne

10/10 Excellent
"Lovely helpful friendly staff, spacious comfortable public lounges, beautiful room (we had a superior sea view), very good breakfast - lots of choices of food & all good quality; nice spacious dining room. We ate in the restaurant one night and it was the best meal I’ve had for ages - I had halibut with delicious accompaniments. The shower in the en suite was an over-bath one which is probably due to the age of the hotel, and it had lots of handles to hold on to and a non-slip surface in the bath; but because of our age and lack of mobility a walk-in shower would have been preferable. Having one at home spoils us! The hotel generally and our room were spotlessly clean; however there was a brown stain at the back of the toilet which was a bit off-putting, though it was probably just discolouration. I think a new toilet pan would be a good idea - this is the only reason I have given the hotel 4 stars for cleanliness rather than 5 stars. Over all we really enjoyed our 3 night stay, would definitely come again and also would definitely recommend it to others."

"Nice hotel. A little dated here and there but still lovely. Staff very helpful. Parking is free on side road or behind hotel (no parking restrictions) or if you get a space out the front you can ask for a £2.50 parking permit for the day. Pool nice just a little small. All in all a good stay"

Cavendish Hotel

8/10 Good
"It's a grand old building - and some of the public areas downstairs are nicely done, and look great. Big and spacious reception/foyer and bar area as well (Didn't use the restaurant). The room was a good size, and a decent price - but as wih many of these big, old properties, it's worn & tired. It was cleaned well, and plenty of space."
