We found this hotel at the last minute and booked right away. The price is great and the service can't be beat. We loved the rooftop deck and pool. The lobby and lobby bar make you feel like you are going back in history. The bathrooms have been updated and are very new. Loved the large shower, which is unusual for a European hotel. Location can not be beat!!! The rooms could use an update but they are clean, somewhat spacious and comfortable.

I work in Barcelona and am lucky to be able to choose hotels in the area around where my office is. I have a couple of favourites but both were full and so I tried the El Avenida Palace as the reviews seemed quite good. It was fine but a little tired and in need of renovation. Great location but there are many, many choices in Exiample and for the same money, a lot are better. The staff are all cool though and it's not their fault that the hotel needs some investment.
