Beautiful old heritage-style building with fireplace, vertical join timber wall panelling, high ceilings and in some areas; crown moulding. Architechturally speaking, an absolute treasure, the hotel backs onto a river. Only thing they loose marks for is that all bedrooms have only shared bathroom facilities & the onsite restaurant doesn't serve dinner on Sunday or Monday night. Room 1 is directly above a compressor unit which goes off randomly throughout the night.

We recently stayed 4 nights, when the whole town was booked out for an event. The managers even allowed us to add an extra person for one night, and were kind enough not to charge any more for their bed and linen which I really appreciated. We have stayed there on another occasion too, a year ago and were just as satisfied. BBQ and Pool areas are a plus and are well maintained. Its not 5 star but was perfectly adequate for our needs clean and well maintained.

The Econo Lodge was perfect for my one-nite lay-over from Sydney to the far North Coast of NSW. I was commuting by car from Sydney, heading for Byron Bay & beyond and on the 7.5hr trip to reach Grafton, it couldn't have been easier to just turn up, check in and put your feet up. One very notable feature of the process was, I had actually arrived very, very late to the venue the day of check-in. I am always delighted with the Espana Motel and have now stayed there 5 - 6 times. Always spotlessly clean, spacious, lovely bed linen. Wen is always friendly and obliging. The rooms are not right up next to the highway, you can barely hear anything! And the petrol station next door always has the cheapest fuel, making it convenient to fill up and go in the morning. The car spaces are marked with yours outside your door.
