The best area to stay in Balcombe is generally within the village centre itself, particularly around Balcombe Street and Stockcroft Road.

Balcombe is a relatively small, pretty village known for its rural setting and strong community feel. The main area is quite compact, with the village shop, the local pub, and the train station all within easy walking distance of one another. The iconic Balcombe Viaduct is a prominent landmark just outside the village, offering impressive views.

For couples looking for a peaceful retreat, staying within the village heart offers easy access to local amenities and the surrounding countryside for walks. You'll find a relaxed pace of life here, great for unwinding. You can enjoy a quiet evening meal at the local pub or explore the nearby Ardingly Reservoir.

Families might also find the village centre accommodating due to its quiet nature and the ability to easily access the train station for day trips to Brighton or London.

The best time to visit Balcombe is during the late spring and summer months, particularly from May to September.

During this period, the weather is generally warmer and drier, making it ideal for exploring the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and enjoying outdoor activities. Average temperatures range from 15°C to 22°C (59°F to 72°F), and there are longer daylight hours. This is great for walking the public footpaths around Balcombe Lake or visiting nearby gardens.

For those who enjoy local events, the summer often features village fetes and open garden weekends, offering a glimpse into local life. While popular, Balcombe retains a relaxed feel even during peak season, so you won't typically find it overly crowded.

Autumn, especially October, can also be a pleasant time to visit, with the changing colours of the leaves creating beautiful scenery.
