A little gemPosted 19/09/2013
Pros: Clean, great location
Cons: Addition of fluffy pillows, and comforter.
Location: The hotel is very close to St. Mark's square, the Valpretto, and Rialto bridge
Hotel Canaletto is truly a little gem, close to all major points, plus restaurants and shops.Staff are extremely helpful. A breakfast is included with the stay, unfortunately due to our early flight we could not partake, but the staff made us a boxed breakfast to take with us. We didn't even ask, they just volunteered it! A great little place, very charming.

Pros: History and location, location, location.
Cons: Italians think it's cool to be belligerent. They should learn that we get tired of that real easy.
Location: Everything is near. The Ae Sconte Restaurant next door is medium priced and good food. And when the weather is right the alfresco setting is romantic.
Hotel Canaletto is in the building where the famous artist of the same name lived at the turn of the 17/18 centuries. The rooms are small but well kept. Breakfast is perfunctory. Could use some imagination. It's the same every day. But it's fresh and has a little something for everyone. The staff can be very helpful and then the next moment belligerent. Especially to we Ingleses! It's something they should work on. But there's one thing that puts this place over the top and in my big plus column. The location. It's just 5 minutes from St Mark's Square and five minutes from the Rialto. And just far enough out of the madhouse traffic that clogs both of those great venues. It's a little haven in the middle of a neighborhood of nice restaurants and local fast food. There is a supermarket two minutes up S. Lio. We really liked Crazy Pizza which is about 150 feet away. They make a great pizza to go and will bake to order in five minutes for around $9. Enough for two or three. So let's give it a two thumbs up.

PERFECT FOR COUPLES!!!Posted 08/08/2013
Pros: ALL OF IT
Location: perfect, cannot fault
BRILLIANT STAY! helpful staff and tasty breakfast! Beautiful room with Venetian style and always clean. They provided a free boat trip to Murano and a tour around a glass factory! Unmissable experience ! The location is perfect , right between Saint Marks Square and Rialto Bridge. Bring your own pillows however as ones provided give neck ache and uncomfortable!! :)

Excellent location and front desk personnel. The buffet breakfast is excellent and the service outstanding. The only complaint is the size of the rooms and the bed and pillows which are as hard as a rock. The restaurant directly across, just around on the way out (not next to the hotel) is one of the best.

We had a double suite in which the bed was in a loft above the main room. It was one of the few rooms with a double Juliet balcony (great for watching the world go by on the canal). Bathroom facilities were modern and clean. There is a nice breakfast buffet included. The staff is courteous. Wifi costs 5 euros for unlimited use. My one disappointment was the bed. The mattress and the pillows were not comfortable. I have a bad back and hard mattresses are difficult for me to sleep on. We stayed one night at the end of a cruise.

Lovely hotel in the best locationPosted 17/07/2013
Pros: Clean, quiet, had everything we needed, and a terrific location between Rialto Bridge and San Marco. A fabulous staff!!! So helpful and friendly!
Cons: Would suggest they put on-line the map drawing to locate the hotel. They do give written directions on their website but the map they give is better.
Location: Terrific location between Rialto Bridge where we got off from the airport Alilaguna water taxi and San Marco. Take water taxi to Murano and Burano.
Even though we initially had a small problem trying to find the hotel, once we found it, it was easy to find it among all the alley ways. We absolutely loved the hotel! Great staff...very friendly, helpful and kind. The hotel room was quiet, clean, cute (decorated in vintage Venetian style), and had everything we needed including hair dryer, shower in tub with good pressure and lots of hot water, and a safe to hold important documents. We also had a terrific breakfast every day that was included in the price. We stayed two days before a cruise and two days after a cruise to enjoy Venice. The location is perfect...half way between the Rialto Bridge and San Marco. The central location made it easy to sight see, shop and return to rest or put packages away. Will definitely recommend to our friends and family and will stay here again. Aloha, From your friends from Hawaii

High value at a budget pricePosted 14/07/2013
For a budget price they deliver high value. The Canaletto is very centrally located about half way between the Rialto Bridge and St Marks Square (about 5 min walk from each). Easy to get to by boat. We splurged on a private taxi from the airport - an expensive ride, so decadent! (at 120 euro) that dropped us at the dock attached to the Canaletto. Read up on how to get around Venice. The hotel staff was very pleasant. The room was clean and well appointed (euro compact?) with damask silken wall paper, period pieces and well functioning air conditioning. The washroom was spacious with marble floors and walls in very new condition with modern near new whites (4 pieces). Marco on the front desk is entertaining and informative. And the rest of the staff was pleasant and attentive. We watched as the day cleaners removed the carpet runners from the stairs, laid them in the hallway, vacuumed them, and returned the carpets to the stairs. The whole place was fastidiously clean. We have rated everything extremely high based on the price. For us, it was one of the least expensive in the San Marco district. We were pleased with everything. It's not a 5 star luxury hotel. It isn't priced that way, so don't expect hordes of groveling staff and hip spacious lobbies. You could walk right by the front door and nearly miss the entrance. I don't mean to condemn with faint praise. For the price, you get extremely good value in the most expensive district in Venice.

Nice hotel for short stayPosted 09/07/2013
It's a bit tricky to find, but once you do, the location is great. Beds are a bit hard, but this seems to be common in Italy. Staff was helpful and accommodating, especial Marco.
