Really hard to find
We took this hotel because of its great location but it took over an hour of wandering around and questioning shop owners before we found it because it is pretty hidden, the signage is bad, and the address in Expedia and the emails was WRONG. In the end we didn't even stay there. The staff - who had very poor English - took us to a small apartment a few blocks away instead. The experience was quite negative.

Location great, accommodation better. All in all, our stay was excellent. Use porter service if wagging the bag is too much, Water Taxi way too pricy.

stayed here for 4 nights and loved it,
very close to everything, 5 mins walk from the rialto bridge and couple more to the st marks square, very quite hotel as its at the end of the alley, so no noise at all, room was beautiful and had a bath shower and all you need, my only fault was the air con unit was very loud at night it turns off and on every 10 mins which wakes you up and you cant control it, its on permently at night. no control switch anywhere, so when it kicks in it wakes you up. but apart from that it was fantastic, just take ear plugs and all will be well. breakfast was adequate with fresh orange juice, coffee and tea, cerial. or ham and cheese rolls etc, the lovely lady in charge will make fresh cuaisonts too. we filled up at breakfast so only bought sandwich or pizza in little shops down the alley for lunch. the bedrooms are on the top floor so lots of walking up stairs and the breakfast room is right outside the bedrooms which is odd but it works. really loved this so will definetly stay again. I give it 5 stars.

Excellent place
It was a great place to stay although it's a bit hard to find. Everything has been great, the environment, the breakfast, the room... However, there wasn't any people at the reception to help us figuring out the air conditioning while we were exhausted and tried to rest in the room.

Very good location, good price
The hotel was ok, I mean, it wasn't expensive, so we didn't expect the Palace. They offer wifi free, but if you want to have connexion you have to go to another hotel. They don't have receptionist or reception service, the cleaner did our check in, no phone connected in the room, so if you have any issue, you can't call anybody. People is nice and friendly, but the facilities and service is very poor.

Close to Arsenale :)
Nothing is far here, but when you walk all day and everywhere it's great to live central. Rooms are very clean and Breakfast is plenty, croissants fresh and warm and eggs always well cooled. You can expect your morning coffee to arrive instantly when you get noticed. WiFi had broken down during our visit unfortunately, but I didn't arrive here to work so it didn't matter. Excellent value for fit and younger traveller - there is some distance to carry your luggage if you arrive on vaporetto and stairs to climb to you room, so maybe not so suitable for elderly.

interesting to say the least
after finally finding the place, we went to another location to check in and then got our keys. it is about a 15 minute walk from the nearest water taxi. if you are in a hurry, this is not the place for you to stay. after a flight of stairs we reached the top floor. the unit is basic as it is in a 1500 year old building. breakfast was ehh and there is no real rush or sense of urgency to get things out in a timely manner. everything here is on a different time frame. slow and slower. but hey, it is Venezia after all and shouldnt rush a good thing. It was interesting and exciting all at the same time.

Should listed as a B&B.
Room was big enough, but having no en-suite and having to walk through breakfast room in mornings to get to shower and toilets was pretty average. Beds were uncomfortable and hard, and you could hear room next door as walls are very thin!! Having to firstly find your hotel, and then be greeted by a sign to find another hotel to pick up your key was really frustrating, especially as there is a reception. You have to climb a fair amount of steps, and as we were not told where the lights were on our arrival to room, climbing the stairs in the dark was horrific!! One of the other guests showed us in the morning where the timer switch was. To be fair, the lady that does breakfast was very hospitable, and worked hard to keep everyone happy. Tip for anyone who does stay - take mosquito spray, as we were eaten alive in the night! Would not recommend this to any of our friends.

This hotel was perfect for our needs. A clean bed in a centrally located part of Venice with a suitable breakfast in the morning. This is not luxury- but it is a fine basic place. The family running the hotel is kind and accommodating.

Deceitful description
My biggest peeve with this hotel is the deceptive (not to say OUTRIGHT LYING) description. Firstly, we booked a King size bed room and got a tiny double. Secondly, the description says wi-fi is available and complimentary. This is an outright lie. There's no wi-fi at Ca Formosa. The owners offered us to go to their other property in order to use wi-fi. How convenient is that? Other than that, it is extremely hard to find this hotel; it is literary hidden and signage is extremely poor. The only thing that saved our stay is the breakfast. The lady who cooks and cleans the room is very tidy and their coffee is probably the best coffee we had in Italy. A big hand to her, and a big frown to the deceiving owners.

A beautiful place and a perfeckt stay.
I can not put a complain to anything...Trendy and special in an old stile. Comfotable and beautiful room with a lovely bathroom, and the service was splendid... The manager even picked us up on a busstation in "the middle of nowhere", after we had gone on a wrong bus from Venize. (Rigth bus is nr 5..)

Terrible experience, do not book economy room!
My girlfriend and I are both backpacking Europe, Venice is expensive full stop so we knew, we booked Ca Formosa based on the positive reviews, description and the price. We thought we were getting a good deal (76euro p.n) on a good room. We've stayed in economy rooms before and they're not that bad, but this was terrible. It was literally an attic! I couldn't walk in half the room out of fear of hitting my head on the roof. None of this was in the description at all. When we took this up with the manager he pretty much said too bad this is what you booked. He was totally unprofessional, rude and actually yelled at us. Funny that considering we booked Ca Formosa yet actually stayed around the corner in Ca Malipiero. We were told this is the room because they're sister hotels. So how could that be the room! False advertising???? This put a dampener on our Venice experience, such a shame. We will also never use this website again.

Great Location. Pathetic room.
There really is not a bad location in Venice, since nearly everything is within walking distance, but this hotel has a great location close to Rialto and San Marco. From the website, it appears that the hotel is well lit and easy to find, but our experience tells of something different. Since we arrived late (11PM), the alley that the hotel was located was completely pitch black and the sign was not easily visible. Then, we had to backtrack around the corner to the hotel's sister hotel to check in. The room was small and smelled musty with a hard double bed and ancient looking furniture, bed linens and amenities. The TV was about 12 inches and did not even work properly. Pros: Superb AC! Decent bathroom. The free breakfast was nothing special. Do not recommend.

Fabulous Bed & Breakfast
The B&B was a bit tricky to find (even some locals weren't really sure) but other hotels nearby helped us find it. The staff was welcoming and helpful (even carried our bags upstairs for us). The room was spacious, clean, with a charming 19th century decor. The breakfast was fabulous and freshly baked. Overall, a great experience for a couple experiencing Venice for the first time.

Very hard to find and when found there was a sign on the door to go to another door but not specified how to find that either. At long last, being let in, out room was on the 4th floor, no elevator. Very hard work, little attention paid by any staff which was mostly non-existant. Beds were not as requested.

This hotel was incredibly hard to find. When we arrived, we had to go to the main hotel to check in. After that, we were lead to another one of their hotels that we had not booked. The bathroom was tiny and had flies -- not very clean. The room itself appeared clean, but the mattress and pillows were hard as a rock. Overall, it was not what we saw in the pictures. I would not recommend this hotel to people. For the money, stay somewhere else.

Beautiful Venice
We arrived late in the day and found the hotel with just a bit of trouble. Unlike the other posts, the hotel was clearly marked. We did need to go to the sister hotel, about 50 meters away to pick up the keys. There was no elevator, 74 steps up to our room. As we did not go in and out many times a day, this was not a problem nor an inconvenience. I believe most hotels in this area do not have elevators. The hotel was located right off the Campo Santa Maria Formosa, and was an excellent location to get around. The breakfast was simple but adequate, croissants, rolls, coffee, tea, hot chocolate and a tort or two along with several cereal choices. My only complaint would be that the advertised free wifi was actually located at the sister hotel. So if you need to be connected, you will have to walk the 50m to get the free wifi. We chose to be off the web for the 3 nights, and just enjoyed Venice. All in all, a very old, quaint hotel which I would recommend.

Ca Formosa: Not Positive
First of all, I challenge anyone to stay at Ca Formosa and get the view shown in their photo. They are not located within the square and no windows look out onto it. It was about a 10 minute walk from the waterbus to the hotel (if you are going to Venice, plan on carrying your luggage through the streets and up and down stairs). The hotel was not well marked and located on an alley off of a side street. We called the hotel for directions and the man (who spoke English) was helpful. We arrived around 1:30 pm and was told our room was not ready and we could wait or go walk around (as they had no luggage storage we opted to wait). Our room was spacious (4 of us were staying in one room). The shared bathroom was quite far from our actual room so I was worried about my small children needing to use the restroom during the night but it was fine. It was slightly awkward walking through the breakfast area with my shower supplies. The staff basically hid the towels. We thought we had none so we helped ourselves in the hallway. When I said something, the girl came in and showed us towels in the cabinet in the room (which was actually blocked by one of the beds and no one showed them to us) We were greeted in the morning to the sound of Italian chit chat and dishes clattered... yep, the kitchen was right off of our room and the staff didn't seem concerned that maybe the guests didn't want to hear them talking at 7:30 in the morning (or dropping metal dishes). When my husband voiced these concerns to the manager (in another building since we couldn't check out in the hotel) there was no apology or explanation. I would not recommend this hotel.

Beautiful Old World Hotel
This was a beautiful hotel close to St. Marks Square. It was a little difficult to find at first as it is down one of the little streets, but once you find it and mark where it is, it is in a great location, and close to a lovely square, and eating places. Very quiet, yet a few steps outside the hotel there are gelato shops, glass shops and lots of places to eat. One small downside, when you enter the hotel, there are a lot of quite steep steps up a winding staircase to the rooms, around 50 stairs. This is understandable as in Venice most of the buildings are very tall and high, so rooms tend to be on the upper floors. Beautiful rooms, with glass chandeliers. Very comfortable. The breakfast room is very elegant with huge glass chandeliers, old world furniture, linens and silverware. There is a small balcony off the breakfast room.Great breakfast. This is a true historic Venice hotel, yet with modern amenities. If you want a taste of the Venice of old, elegant and charming, then we would highly recomend this hotel. We loved it and would stay here again.

A story to tell...
We got stuck in the attic. Our room was on the very top floor and part of the roof sloped down so you had to duck under beams to get around the bed. So quite literally in an attic. The other rooms may well have been reasonable, but our luck was fresh out so our room sucked. We also had to share a bathroom, which wasn't too much of an inconvenience, aside from the fact that the people that shared it with us (who we never saw) were slobs and left their empty packets of shower gel strewn about the shower, as well as leaving the bathroom in a generally unpleasant state. The hotel itself was old and a little rough around the edges, but it is Venice, so most places would be quite similar and it wasn't too bad in the end. Hotel staff were pleasant. The place is in a good location, and our particular part of this multi-building hotel overlooked a large square complete with church. Overall it's a place which may give you a story to tell. We'd most likely check out a different hotel next time, but in the end it wasn't a disaster. P.S I'd like to give a big shout out the guest who every morning sat at the breakfast table, surrounded by his family and proceeded to read women's gossip magazines with furious intensity.

where is my bathroom ensuite?
Ca Formosa is a friendly and well maintained hotel but several of the room DO NOT have ensuite bathrooms and this is not made clear when booking. I booked a room, specifically with ensuite facilities, but when I arrived was given a room without ensuite. Furthermore the shared bathroom was down the hall and through the breakfast room and there was only 1 shared bathroom between multiple rooms and guests - not great. The location is fine but very tricky to find - like most places in Venice. Breakfast was plentiful and staff are very friendly.

This was the hotel we were most disappointed in of all our stays. It was not modern at all. We had to share a bathroom. It was on the 4th floor and we had to lug our suitcases up tiny staircase. No elevators/ lifts. When we arrived, we had to go to another hotel to get checked in and keys. Keys were old style....didn't feel that secure. Over-priced for what we got.

I'm pleased with the service and cleanliness of the hotel. Even though the toilet is shared, it is well maintained. Its location is just about 5-10mins walk from the city area. For those who loves shopping at branded stores, this is the place to stay in. Internet is free but there is only one computer so you need to be quick. The only thing I don't like is that you have to carry your luggage all the way to e 3rd storey before you can see your room and the walkway is quite narrow.

A little out of the way, but good value
Check in was a little inconvenient since we had to go to their nearby sister hotel to arrange check-in. Located near a lovely piazza, being a little out of the way added to the charm. Our room overlooked a narrow canal that was used by a local gondolier. Don't expect luxury accomodations, but it's clean and safe.

Overbooked downgrade with no compensatio
They overbooked and relocated me to another hotel, but with extremely bad condition. The room was dirty, had to share a bathroom with other people (in my original booking it was a single room with private bathroom). While the hotel rate was some $220/night, the room they relocated us was more like a hostel that cost no more than $40.

Not bad
This hotel was not bad...but it was not all that great either. The accomodations were satisfactory and the breakfast was good. Our problem was the concept of a "shared bathroom." The bathroom was across the breakfast/community room from our bedroom. Not good. Also, Venice is a noisey town because of all of the stone and water. Without mechanical ventilation in the room, one had the choice of closing up and being fairly quiet, or opening the windows and listening to the townspeople. Also, it is a long climb to the rooms (about 5 flights of stairs. Whereas a gent will help with the luggage going up, you are on your own going down. Judt beware of this.

Ca Formosa in Venice - highly recommend!
We stayed for one night in June and were very impressed. A number of reviews said about the stairs to climb, there are around 4 flights but as long as you're able its no problem. The lady we met at check-in also showed us to our room, did the cleaning and looked after breakfast! She was very friendly and happy to help. The room was lovely with view of the canal and gondola's going by, and aircon and tv/minibar, it was a shared bathroom but for one night it was no problem. Breakfast was excellent. One of the best features was the location, its 5 min walk to St Marks square, we went to tourist information in the square armed with a map and they marked the hotel on the map for us. We had a magical time in Venice and the Ca Formosa was part of it, we highly recommend and if we get to return to Venice we'll be staying there again!

The proverbial hidden Gem
Despite being pre-warned about being difficult to find, and planning ahead with maps, we still got lost. Best bet is to head towards Santa Maria Formosa, starting from San Zacharia, past the church and left. then right past da Robertos pizzaria, left over the next bridge, then a small right and left onto Rui Grafia and its the last street on your right before the square. Now you know the way there should be nothing stopping you from going! A fabulous little hotel, about the only one we could afford, but certainly did not feel cheap. Nice clean rooms, very good breakfast, quiet, and most importantly a perfect location for San Marco. If you're planning on being able to walk around Venice all day, then the stairs shouldn't really be an issue. In short, if you're after location and value for money, then Ca Formosa is perfect. Provided you can find it...

Like most hotels in Venice
We had a little trouble finding it, but the directions on the website got us pretty close. An older gentleman at a nearby cafe came to our rescue and brought us to the hotel. The hotel was pretty dated, but most hotels in Venice seem to be this way. The price was right for what we got and we were not in the room for very long anyway. No elevator, but the receptionist helped us up the stairs with our bags. He didn't speak much Engish, which made it a little more difficult. Internet access in the common room. No private baths. Breakfast was very nice and more than the usual Continental fare.

This was a lovely little hotel but you need to be fit enough to climb a very steep staircase to get to your room. Due to a mix-up with the trains we arrived a day early and they could not have been more welcoming. It was a bit of a challenge to find, as there is no street name. Head for the church of Santa Maria Formosa. Cross the little bridge on the left behind the church and Ca Formosa is in the first little lane on the left. The lane ends at double doors and the door to the hotel is just to the left of these. The room was very clean and the bed was pretty good, although Italians don't use doonas. Breakfast was pleasant, although we found raspberry tart a bit strange at that hour. Still, it was very tasty. On the whole, we were delighted with our stay here.

The room was beautiful but the only problem was that it was on the 3rd floor and no elevator! The concierge was nice enough to carry my bags up to the room for me. The hotel was a bit of a walk from the vaporetto but well worth it. If you don't like to walk you won't like Venice anyway! I was pleasantly surprised from the moment I arrived with the friendly, yet non-overbearing staff, impeccable cleanliness and central, quiet location in the city. Even though I had a shared bathroom and all the rooms surrounded a common sitting/breakfast area, the accommodations were very comfortable and staff made sure that all requests were met with a smile and then double-checked to see if I remained satisfied.
