“Great location, excellent service, stiff bed”

Great hotel. Excellent service. We forgot toothbrushes, and I called down to the front desk at about 11 p.m. on our first night there, and within five minutes, a bellhop had brought up two new toothbrushes for us. The concierge was helpful in recommending dinner venues, though, because we were on the younger side of the average guest, may have assumed we wanted hip recommendations rather than classic, Upper East Side recommendations. Only two complaints: bed was stiff and HVAC system seemed to be making intermittent noises throughout the nights we were there.

“In a class by itself!”

The Carlyle is simply over-the-top! I've stayed there for years now, and always look forward to my return. It's small, elegant, quiet, chic, and the staff and service are outstanding. The concierge desk is excellent and there seems little the concierge(s) cannot do for you. The dining options are also excellent and the food delicious. In short, staying at the Carlyle is very special indeed. Also, its location on the Upper East Side is ideal for shopping, the Met is just a few blocks away, ditto several other marvelous museums and galleries; Central Park is also just a few minutes away, there are good restaurants in the neighborhood, and altogether the area is extremely appealing. If you want to be pampered in elegant, refined surroundings, treat yourself to a stay at the Carlyle.

“old-world elegance”

from the white-gloved elevator operators to the spotless room this hotel is truly a taste of the past, a world of elegance, service, comfort. It is discrete, private. You rarely see anyone else. So unlike the new "glitzy" indifferent hotels that have sprung up all over town like weeds. It is a great place and a great value.

“The Carlyle Exceeds Expectations”

The Reception staff could not have been more welcoming, making my early morning wait for my room to be prepared as pleasant as possible. And the wait was worth it! Everything was excellent.

“Be prepared to be pampered”

This is a very upscale hotel with a competent staff who are eager to be of service. Our room was extremely comfortable, clean and very well equipped with everything from a fax machine to Q-tips. It is away from the "maddening crowd" of downtown & quiet. However, we would have enjoyed having an in room coffee pot rather than calling room service (there was coffee available in the lobby though) and even though room service was prompt bringing ice to our room it was still less convenient. The concierge service was excellent. A great hotel for people who want to be waited on and "served". We loved it but felt a little bit like Ma & Pa Clampet!

“Old school posh”

This was a very nice hotel. The bathroom and kitchen were updated and nice. There was a walk-in closet. There was an evening turndown service that was a nice unexpected surprise. The hotel in general was very good, but it was awkward to constantly be greeted by two or three people any time you went anywhere, including the tiny elevators. Very nice hotel , but next time something more modern at the same price point would be better.

“Excellent”

Excellent service, beautiful design and interiors, smallish room but I understand that's common for NYC, nice amenities, great location. Only bad thing to say is its a bit of a stuffy atmosphere (and they charge for internet access which in 2009 is absolutely unacceptable).

“Step back in time with the Carlyle”

This was our first trip to NYC. The Carlyle Hotel was everything we hoped it would be. The building is architechtually beautiful on the outside and the inside was nostalgic and elegant. We did have an issue with the air conditioners but what makes this hotel rise above many others is how they treat you and help you find solutions to your satisfaction. From our welcome to our departure, the staff at the front desk to the housekeeping was all friendly and helpful. We were always greeted and responded to by name which was impressive as well. The Carlyle is in the upper east side of Manhattan where you will feel like you are rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous. You can do as much shopping nearby at the best places in the world that you want. The evenings are a quiet if you need the rest, but a 10 minute cab ride will get you to Time Square for the night life. The hotel is only 2 blocks from the subway station that will take you to most places on Manhattan quickly and fairly easily once you take a look at the maps. Overall, we had a fabulous stay at the Carlyle and I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone that wants to feel like they want the whole experience of staying in Manhattan.
