"Nice hotel one block off the beach and esplanade."
I had a great stay coming over from the US. I stayed a week while doing work the James Cook university north of Cairns and then a day just before flying back two weeks after that. I had a basic room with small kitchen both times. The first I was on the third floor of the back building with great view of the mountains from my balcony. I second I was on the first floor of the same wing but my narrow balcony faced a 2 meter block wall. The rooms were large, very clean and well kept. Air conditioning and ceiling fans worked well. I ate in the open air dining room which faces out on the roadway for one dinner and one breakfast. Both times the meals were very good. There was a buffet for breakfast. My room did not include it but others packages do I believe. Ambiance was not terrific due to traffic but nevertheless it was convenient and the food good and service fine. The staff was very friendly and efficient. I requested a very early (4:15 am) wake up call to make my plane home and it was right on time. I also requested a cab to the airport and again they had it there right on time. There is nice pool but weather a bit cool for use of it. There seemed to be a lot of travelers staying with backpacks there during my September visit.
The Cairns Sheridan is an extremely nice place to stay. I only stayed one night while I was on the way back to Japan from Sydney, but I felt like I could have stayed several more nights and enjoyed myself - without a doubt. The front desk staff that I had the good fortune to encounter were really very friendly and helpful.
Nothing was too much trouble, so relaxing, lovely to have room dining menu and excellent food along with drinks. Restraunt excellent if wanting to dine downstairs. Gardens wonderful to enjoy a happy hour in the sun.Staff brilliant and attentive at all times always willing to oblige with excellent service.
we were exceptionally happy with this resort hotel. The position / location is very easy to find and quite central to everywhere too. The staff are all very pleasant and friendly. We also enjoyed dinner for two nights in a row at the restaurant. WONDERFUL food and well worth the value.

Set amid an acre of tropical gardens, this hotel is 100 metres from the Cairns Esplanade and one km from the Cairns city centre.More
The Tropical Queenslander hotel is located a fair walk from the Cairns esplanade and waterfront, which is the heart of the city. So, it cannot boast the best location in the town. Also, its neighborhood, while nice enough, is not as good as the top hotels.
But what the Queenslander lacked in location, it made up for in value. We had a very nice room with great amenities. The hotel staff was excellent and set us up with some very nice tours and directions around town. We had free parking for the car. Internet access was available (reasonable rate, though not free). And they had two very lovely pools.
All in all, just what I was looking for at a great rate.
