About the Area
Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second-highest vertical-drop waterfall in Yosemite), and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias. Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pickup game of basketball at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails, or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The historic village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season, and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year-round riparian meadow wildlife viewing. Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area), and is located on the South Fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley. Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch, which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station. The Redwoods in Yosemite has over 120 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance of everything that Wawona has to offer, and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

We were glad to see that this property had it all. Clean rooms, plenty of pots and pans, plates annd coffee cups and a clean living room . The deck where we had breakfast every morning, was exactly what we needed. . I can’t wait to see you guys next year

Quiet location inside Yosemite National Park. Had all we needed to prepare our own meals - including a grill on the deck. Small grocery store was very close for our all our needs. Would recommend to anyone who wants to stay in the park and have the convenience of not having to camp.
We book this property last minute to be able to visit Yosemite. If you don't mind driving back and forth than it is ok. I love the balcony but the property definitely needs updating. The supplies given are very limited. Check in was easy.

The cabin is in the park, which is terrific, and the deck and layout are great. But overall, we were disappointed. We arrived, and the place was all shut up, curtains drawn, and it had an odd smell. I assumed because it hadn't been used recently. We opened all the windows, which helped with the smell, but without lights on in the day, it was still really dark. We could deal with that. The next morning, we noticed that there was no silverware and found it all in the dishwasher. It was full of dishes. I mentioned both the dishwasher and the place being closed up to the desk, asking if that is normal when someone arrives. She said that “isn't normal, sorry”. That night it rained, so we closed the windows and the smell returned. The smell and lack of preparation for our arrival considering that we paid a 466 for host fees on top of the fee for 3 nights stay and cleaning fee didn’t sit well with us. I loved Yosemite and this location, but I wouldn't stay here again. They did little to make you feel welcome. Actually, the opposite - a not-so-nice letter on the fridge saying that when you load up a refrigerator with lots of groceries, it takes time to get back up to temperature. Which with a note in the cabin welcoming you and sharing tips on the area would be fine, but alone with a dark smelly cabin was depressing. The convenience of being in the park is worth something but they need to work on the cabin and welcome their guests.
We had a wonderful time away from home at this cabin. The location was great for us. We were close enough to Yosemite without having to be around all the people. The cabin is quite comfortable and we were able to make a couple meals in the kitchen as well as grill out on the porch. There is a wonderful neighborhood market we visited often. We were sad to leave.
Deer Den was a great place to stay while visiting Yosemite Park. We loved coming home from hiking in the Mariposa Grove and biking in Yosemite Valley to a cozy wood fire in our cabin. The cabin is rustic but nicely updated and well equipped for everything we needed. We especially enjoyed sitting on the large deck and enjoying the outdoors in the afternoon.
Good location only 20 miles from Yosemite. Nice little community with small market place for things we may have forgotten. Cabin was fitting for our needs but with minimal light inside. Would return however.
We stayed at this cabin for 2 nights in September. The cabin is well maintained and has an authentic feel. It’s well stocked and the size is just right for a family of four. The patio is a definite plus. We had a dinner outside and sitting outdoors felt great. I think it’s very well located inside the community with enough privacy to enjoy.
We recommend the place.

Great place to stay while visiting Yosemite
We had planned a motor home trip with out granddaughter, but could not get a campsite reservation anywhere in the park. In order to assure access to the park, we needed to have an an accommodations reservation inside park boundaries, so started exploring VRBO. It turned out to be a great solution with nice cabin about a 45 minute drive from Yosemite Valley and very close the the Mariposa Giant Sequoia Grove. We cooled off in the creek we discovered 1/4 mile from the cabin, had easy access to some great activities in Fish Camp. Great horseback trail rides at Yosemite Trails and great evening of gold panning, BBQ, train ride and campfire at Sugar Pine Railroad.
