About the Area
Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second-highest vertical-drop waterfall in Yosemite), and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias. Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pickup game of basketball at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The historic village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season, and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year-round riparian meadow wildlife viewing. Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok in their language as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area) and is located on the South Fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley. Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch, which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station. The Redwoods in Yosemite has over 110 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance of everything that Wawona has to offer, and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

Great location to access all of Yosemite by car. My son’s first visit to the park and he was blown away with the views in all our hikes and SUP days. Wawona could use a nice coffee shop and maybe a bar/restaurant but beyond that minor critique, we loved staying there.
Host at the check in was super nice and friendly! I believe her name was Sharon (I’m old and forgetful) and she was amazing. The cabin was all we needed; loved the fireplace and thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the back porch drinking coffee at sunrise or sunset (we had a few deer walk right by one morning). My one complaint is the carpet, it is long past needing to be replaced. Please take the money earned from my one week stay and get new carpet. Or better yet, put in tile or laminate floor and get area rugs that can easily be replaced every few years. Overall, it was a wonderful week in Yosemite! Thank you Redwoods, we will be back!

Liked: Cleanliness, location, listing accuracy
Disliked: Check-in, communication
Nice atmosphere, convenient location
Overall we enjoyed our stay. Our main problem was with communication with the manager of the property. We apparently were supposed to receive check-in instructions via email which we never did. I reached out to the contact phone number the day of arrival and left a voicemail but never heard back. We arrived approximately 9pm on our check-in date and fortunately the back door had been left unlocked, so we went on it. The next day we found a "registration" office, and learned we should have stopped there to pick up a packet including keys.
Other than that things were fine. It's not the most well-equipped property I've stayed at (2 quarter size soap bars were the extent of bathroom amenities) but it was clean and comfortable and had a nice cabin-ish feeling. The bathroom off the "main" bedroom is tiny, and has a shelf mounted over the toilet with a sharp corner which gouged my back a couple times when trying to move into the tiny space in front of the sink - perhaps that should be fixed. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, and the location was great.
Very cozy and well-equipped home with a beautiful terrace behind the house. Peaceful and quiet surroundings. A wonderful place to stay in Yosemite Park!
We’ve never stayed at Wawona, so this was a new discovery for our family. This property really gave us that staying in a cabin in the woods feeling while still having everything we needed.
Had a great time. The area was quiet and the cabin was nice. One member of our family described it as "very national parky." Only issue was the WiFi was slow.

Restful and Quiet
Lovely cabin and close enough to everything near Yosemite. Lovely walks in the morning and birds singing nearby made it special. Pet friendly. We were able to bring our dogs. Perfect weekend.

Essentials were provided. Cabin was clean with the exception of shag carpeting. Carpet needs to be pulled up. Smelled and didn't want to walk on it barefoot. I swept all outdoor spaces and left cabin cleaner than when we arrived.

Cabin in Wawona
Very nice cabin in quiet community. Lovely porch and outdoor seating. Beds were comfortable. Close to hiking, horseback riding, visitor center etc. Very well stocked kitchen. We had an issue with a slow drain that was resolved immediately. The only thing holding me back from a 5 star rating is that the cabin smelled like smoke from the fireplace and the carpet was in pretty poor shape.
The cabin was cute, if a little dark and dated. The main drawback for us was that we would have liked to be closer to the Yosemite Valley after all -- there isn't a lot to do in Wawona. Also, the cabin does not have A/C, in spite of the temps being in nearly 100 degrees!
Cabin #53 provided all the comforts of home. Appreciated that cabin was tidy and clean upon arrival and we found it provided most of what was needed for meal prep. A set of linens for the sofa bed wouldʻve been appreciated which we requested the following day as we arrived after office hours. Otherwise, we wish we had another day or two to enjoy the Redwoods at Yosemite and the cabin deck and nearby hiking trails. Our 16 yr old son was impressed with the binder that included comprehensive information of activities and a history of the area. Laundry is nearby at the office and is free, which we appreciated and used twice during our short stay, and housekeeping staff were very accommodating and kind. We hope to return to cabin #53.
The cabin was a comfortable and cozy as base station while we explored Yosemite. The cabin was tidy and had all the basic amenities. We were very happy to find a dog friendly rental so that our entire family could enjoy our getaway.
The cabin is fairly rustic and outdated but well equipped and conveniently located within the National Park. There is a small convenience store and a gas station nearby, both were very handy. It still took about an hour to drive to and fro the Valley each way.

First-Time Experience
This was our first time coming to Yosemite...and specially the Redwoods Cabins. I enjoyed our time. The cabin could have been a little nicer, but I know that I got a bronze rating one. Given that, I was happy that I had all those things available.

Great pet-friendly cabin
This is the second time we have stayed in Cabin 53, and we've been going to the Redwoods for over 30 years. We love this cabin - it's close to the water, trailheads, and a short trip to the Valley. Looking forward to staying here again and making memories!
