Friendly professional service small but adequate room for my wife and I for a one night stay close to the centre comfortable and warm bed with small en-suite, definitely worth the very reasonable price, we would use again most definitely

Great location in centre of York, walking distance to shops, bars, restaurants and the Barbican centre. Room itself was dated, no central heating, just two small stand-alone heaters (which did heat the room) and small bathroom with shower. Tea and coffee facilities were a nice touch.

Loads of parking, nice bar, good food. The room showed its age but it's an old building so that's only to be expected. It really couldn't be better located. Make sure you have a GPS to find the place, though as the streets are what you'd expect in a 2000+ year old city. Would definitely stay here again.

While the room was a bit small, the location was great. You can walk to almost any of the many old-town attractions. There is a decent restaurant/bar below the hotel. The staff was all very friendly. And, as a bonus, there is free secure parking on the lot just behind the hotel (you enter through a gate that goes under the 2nd floor). It's a bit loud until 11:00 (on the weekend) and then very quiet afterward. Despite the crowded room, we loved it and would go back.

The place itself was lovely a little dated in the bedrooms but so clean, short walk to the shambles, food at the hotel was fantastic excellent price, can recommend the Eggs Benedict for breakfast, outside lovely seating area right by the river and last but not least staff are so welcoming very attentive 5 star service will be going back again

The staff are exceptional! They are very friendly, helpful and go above and beyond for you. We couldn’t have asked for better. The breakfast in the pub below was good. When we needed ice for our sodas in our room they happily gave it to us. We were even allowed to check in early with no problems. High marks to the staff!! It’s in a wonderful and central location! Super close walk to the sites of York! The rooms are very dirty and in need of DEEP cleaning; new furniture and a complete overhaul. If they’d clean the rooms it would be a great place to stay. Again, amazing location and some of the best staff I’ve ever encountered!

The Walkergate Inn was a fab little pub with rooms to stay at. The room I stayed in was fab for the night, with a double, TV, kettle with tea & coffee. A bathroom with shower. The room was safe & secure & a 3 minute walk from the main town centre. The staff I ment on check in/out were warm & friendly. I would definitely stay there again.

Lovely staff and food

We stayed for 1 night as a halfway stop en route, the staff were extremely helpful and polite. Unfortunately the facilities in the room were lacking, the bed was very low and the tiny shower door didnt open fully i had requested a low floor room because i have mobility issues at the moment, but was placed up a flight of stairs. They need to make it absolutely clear on their website that they are not suitable for anyone with mobility problems. The food was really good as was the beer.

Good and bad

We booked the accommodation last minute during York Food Festival, so availabilty was limited to the small double room. Small is an understatement. The bedroom was pretty grim with no opening windows, a small oscillating fan and a metal rack for clothing. There was a tiny, unnoticeable step into the bathroom, perfect for toe stubbing and the shower screen surround was pitted. That said, the breakfast and coffee was good and the staff were lovely. We glanced into other rooms which looked perfectly okay, so maybe we were unlucky with our choice.

I stayed here with 3 other friends and we had an amazing time nothing was too much for the staff at the Inn. Next time I would love to stay in one of the shepherds huts

Check-in was straightforward, and the room was clean and functional with basic amenities like coffee-making facilities and a warm shower. However, our stay was seriously disrupted by loud drilling and hammering starting around 08:15 right outside our window. The noise was so loud and went on for a couple of hours, making it impossible to get a restful lie-in. It’s likely this work has been going on for weeks before our stay, yet the hotel gave no warning or apology. This feels like a failure on the hotel’s part — guests should be informed about ongoing construction or work, especially if it affects their comfort so dramatically. A restful stay was completely ruined, and for that reason, I can only give 2/5.
