Will definitely stay here next time we're in town
Overall we had a very pleasant stay. Our room was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. A little renovation of some of the decor wouldn't go amiss but we cannot thank the staff enough for their warm welcome and their willingness to help. Breakfast was also delicious and served with a smile from the friendly and kind staff.

Holgate Bridge Hotel
The hotel was clean and comfortable but could do with a lick of paint. The carpets could do with replacing too. The staff were very friendly and helpful and even though an error was made in our booking they put it right straight away. Breakfast was excellent. On-site free parking was a bonus too.
The bed was ok but the room needed redecorating, the bathroom smelt of sewers, the breakfast was rubbish no cooked breakfast, left after one night instead of staying for two, not recommended
Very friendly staff, extremely helpful. Comfortable room and bed, complimentary tea and coffee in the room. An excellent place to discover York from. Will definitely book again.
Car parking, and very close to the town centre. There is also excellent restaurant in the area, and plenty of things to do and see.
The Roman wall walk is excellent.
Couldn’t have been more helpful.
Just a short walk into the city and the attractions. We would definitely stay again on our next visit to York.

I stayed in the Holgate Bridge Hotel in December 2019 for one week having started a new job at the nearby rail operating centre. Because I couldn't secure myself a flat in time, I had to book into B&B accomodation. I initially scratched around for reasonably priced B&Bs and I booked into the Holgate Bridge as it was one of the cheapest.
As far as B&Bs go, there are far worse than the Holgate. However, having booked for a single room, I was allocated room number 11 which was no bigger than a shoe box. Because the room is so small, I felt like I was in a prison cell! Also, the room was quite stuffy and I had trouble opening the window for fresh air. You have to use a communal shower/bathroom across the landing but there was never any hot water for a morning shower which was a dissappointment for me.
The other issue I had with the Holgate Bridge is that the reception desk is very rarely staffed. There is a number to ring on reception if no one is there but this never got answered when I tried to ring one night for a genuine reason it just got ignored.
The location of the Holgate is one of it's stronger points. There is a small convenience store on the corner of the block and about ten minutes walk away is a cluster of pubs and eatery places located on Blossom St. York City Centre is about 20 minutes walk via Railway Terrace & Leeman Road.
The Holgate is pretty average - please avoid the single rooms though because it did feel depressing staying in that tiny box!!!

Simple B and B
I traveled with my pet dog on pretty much all hotel search site it said it allow pets.
Upon arrival I was told the dog would need to stay in the car and not in the hotel.
After a few calls made by the reception. The issue was resolved.
Bathroom needs a good fix up as the hotel is getting old.
If you are looking for a simple B n B then this can do the trick

Not bad for the price
No major problems but things looking a bit tatty and dated. eg hallway and stairs carpets. Problem with rising damp in the basement rooms which created quite a strong smell. Room was very clean and comfortable and the breakfast area, food and staff were excellent. 10 minute walk into city centre, takeaways and bars.
Lovely large family room with ensuite. Would recommend black out blinds as was very bright in the morning

Great location easy car parking and for the price charged one cannot expect luxurious accommodation. But it was clean and did the job.
Superb breakfast absolutely top drawer.

Great base for a weekend in York
We had a lovely stay and the best breakfast I have had in a hotel or B&B in a very long time. Parking was particularly useful and location was excellent.
Our bed was not comfortable and seemed very small. I used the duvet as a topper and would have asked for anothr duvet if I was cold. Pillows were lovely. Bathroom was very dated and the toilet roll holder came off the wall but the shower was good for a B&B.
