"The location in Nara is unbeatable!! The experience was nice and the breakfast was wonderful. Staff was wonderful as well. But the hotel is in desperate need of a renovation. The common areas are in really bad shape. At this price range we did expect much better installations. Also are planning to pay extra for the 5 story pagoda view DON’T!! It is under renovation and covered. Looks like you are in front of a big factory warehouse building"

"I had a very pleasant stay at Piazza Hotel Nara. Although the hotel is located right next to the train station and the bus loop, the room was completely quiet. The room as well as the hotel facilities were perfectly clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful. They went out of their way to accommodate my requests, such as extending my stay on short notice without needing to change rooms. I also enjoyed the breakfast buffet in the restaurant. Great selection of food, very tasty."

"This is a good hotel, but I would not reccomend it for occidental travellers. Pros: Convenient walkable location. Very spacious and clean room. Convenient lunch/coffee room with free coffee, water, ramen and teas. Japanese breakfast delivered to room (no option for continental breakfast). Need to schedule breakfast time. Coin laundry machine in basement (just 1). Japanese Spa (did not use it) Cons: Very uncomfortable japanese mattress. Shower stays on for 30 sec at a time (need to keep pushing the handle to restart - not terrible / just inconvenient) Noisy in the middle of the night. The Starbucks downstairs gets a vehicle around 4 am and it gets loud moving stuff for a about 20 min. The nearby temple gong sounds 6 times at 6 am. There are no curtains. There is too much light in summer mornings after 6-7 am. The TV is very old. no possibility to beam your device or use apps like Netflix. Bring an HDMI cable if you want to connect your laptop."

"This was my favourite place we stayed on our trip so far. It was so quiet and peaceful both in the hostel and the neighbourhood. It’s about a 20 minute walk to get to Nara Park and you’re likely to run into some deer on your way there as they tend to come right into town in addition to hanging in the park. There are laundry facilities and a smoking area in the back garden. Rice porridge is served each morning and there are free and paid beverages available. There was no staff on site due to the financial repercussions of the pandemic, but the autonomous luggage storage and check-in instructions were easy to follow. I will definitely be returning in the future!"

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Uda?
The best area to stay in Uda is Murou, particularly for those looking to experience the region's natural beauty and spiritual heritage.Murou is a tranquil, verdant area located among the mountains, well-known for the ancient Murou-ji Temple. This temple, often called "Mount Koya for women," is set on a mountainside and offers a serene atmosphere with its beautiful pagoda and halls. The area around the temple is quite rural, with gentle streams and walking paths through forests.Couples seeking a peaceful retreat will find Murou particularly appealing. The area provides opportunities for quiet contemplation and scenic walks amidst nature. High-quality ryokans (traditional Japanese inns) here often feature private outdoor baths and exquisite local cuisine, superb for a relaxing and intimate escape. For those interested in history and traditional architecture, the area around Ōuda-Shōgō in the Ōuda district offers a glimpse into Uda's past.
When is the best time to go to Uda?
For most visitors, the best time to visit Uda is during spring (March to May) or autumn (September to November) when the weather is pleasant and the natural scenery is at its most beautiful.Spring in Uda brings mild temperatures, typically ranging from 10°C to 20°C, making it ideal for exploring the outdoor attractions. This season is particularly special for those wanting to see the famous cherry blossoms, especially at the Matabei-zakura tree, which usually blooms in early April. The gentle weather is great for leisurely walks through historic districts like Uda Matsuyama.Autumn offers equally agreeable weather, with temperatures similar to spring and often less rainfall. The hillsides surrounding Uda transform with vibrant autumn colours, providing a stunning backdrop for sightseeing. This period is excellent for photography or simply enjoying the tranquil beauty of the region, perhaps with a visit to the Murō-ji Temple.Summer (June to August) can be hot and humid, with temperatures often exceeding 30°C, and it's also the rainy season. While there are local festivals during this time, the heat can make extended outdoor activities less comfortable. Winter (December to February) is cold, with temperatures sometimes dropping below freezing, and there's a chance of snow.
