"A lovely county castle surrounded by Belted Galloway cattle and sheep. The castle grounds have a fruit trees, herbs and vegetables. Tobias is truly a wonderful gentleman and host. He prepared an amazing breakfast both mornings which consisted of local flavors ( haggis, blood pudding, potato cakes, eggs, bacon and sausage). "All good and hotel met expectations. Hotel is perhaps a little tired and in need of some refurbishment but rooms clean, beds comfortable and good shower, ideal for golf trip accommodation and reasonably priced. Only thing to watch out for is my room was next to the kitchen extractor fan that comes on at 7am so don’t expect a lie in if you are in room 6"

"An old period home, exterior is in need of maintenance and cleaning. Gardens around property could be maintained better. Interior of property is lovely and generally upkept well. The room was an average size, just a double bed, it was comfortable. Furnishings nice. Bathroom had a bath but it's in need of renovations and a good bleaching. Nice lounge area to sit for a drink. Billiards room was wonderful to play snooker. Restaurant for dinner was ok. A continental breakfast is avail, very minimal selection. Cereals, tinned and fresh fruit; croissants, cheese and toast. Cooked breakfast is an additional 10 pounds."

"My friend and I spent Wednesday night there, and received a VERY friendly welcome from a nice lady at the reception desk. Unfortunately, there are no lifts and the stairs are rather steep and spiral too, which as two elderly men with walking sticks we found quite hazardous with our luggage. When we got to our room, which was on the first floor, the light in the shower room and loo was broken, resulting in complete darkness with the door shut. I went back and spoke to the lady who had welcomed us and her surprise at the light not working seemed 100% genuine and she apologised profusely and said she would "get it fixed". Then she very quickly and efficiently got us moved to another room, also on the first floor, which was absolutely perfect. I would recommend this hotel for its cleanliness and friendliness but disabled people need to be aware of the stairs."

We enjoyed a pleasant drink on the lovely patio overlooking the river followed by a tasty meal in the bar. Breakfast was excellent . Our room was fairly basic with quite a small ensuite . The WiFi was good. We were pleased with our stay which represented good value."
