Bayside bliss and rocking surf: You can have the best of both worlds at this town on the southern end of Tauranga Harbour.
Split by a huge sandbar, Mount Maunganui (or “the Mount” in local speak) lays claim to awesome surf on one side and a sheltered bay on the other. Oh and there’s also the mountain itself. Take the easy climb to its peak and soak up the 360-degree views. The 3.4km trail is suitable for strollers too, so get out with the whole family for some exercise. Work up an appetite and then you can really enjoy a meal at one of the many beachside restaurants and cafes.
