While driving along the Coromandel Peninsula, we saw so many wonderful views, but we weren't always able to pull over and stop to take a photo. In Tairua we did manage a quick stop to take this shot.
Mount Paku offers stunning views over Tairua (right), Pauanui (left), their beaches and an array of Islands, including Shoe, Slipper, Penguin, Rabbit and the Aldermen Islands. This walk is approximately 40 minutes from the Tairua township, or park on Tirinui Crescent close to the summit for a short walk up the summit. The views are spectacular.

Go with the flow in Tairua and discover its volcanic peaks, island dive spots and surf beaches at your own leisure.

Tairua means “two tides”. One tide reaches its harbour at the Tairua River mouth and the other laps at Tairua Beach. In between stand the twin peaks of Mount Paku, a volcano with views of some the best dive spots of the Coromandel Peninsula. Tairua’s twin town Pauanui is just a short ferry ride away. The region’s true hidden gem is Otara Bay. You can only get there by following a bush track from Sailor’s Grave Beach. Shh, don’t tell anyone!

easy check in. amazing, spacious and clean room. Beach is literally across the road from the lodge. My room had stunning sunset views over the beach, it was lovely. The shower was really good as well - strong water pressure and hot temp. No issues with the wifi either, it was speedy as.

A great spot to visit and fantastic views from Paku Summit. Winter a lot of restaurants are not open every night so something to be mindful of. Summer it’s pumping.

I had never stayed there before. This was a brief trip and I'm determined to return for a longer holiday. The estuary and ocean beach are beautiful, there are plenty of dining options and it's a reasonably short drive to other attractions.

Very quiet town, not many restaurants or eating options. Great food at Hot Water Beach cafe. Healthy food at reasonable price and lovely setting.
