What we really liked was the location. The hotel lobby and boutique like feel was great. However, the room had an old, very dirty carpet, the bathroom was absolutely disgusting, probably remembering the beginning of Australia...Joking here, but, yes it was awful. The staff was cold. We came early and had to wonder around for several hours, they said they were going to e-mail us when the room was ready, but sadly they never did. We asked them to call us, they declined claiming that the hotel does not do international calls (it's owned by Sofitel, so I'm sure they could train their staff how to use Skype, for instance). They did not even offer a bottle of water. We were dead tired after traveling long distance and being on a 16 hours different time zone. This is not a 5 star hotel, rather 1 star. We have travelled the world and stayed at various hotels, but this was by far the worst hotel we stayed at. But, like I've mentioned before, the location was fantastic, so what we did we rose very early in the morning, left the hotel, explored the beautiful city Sidney is and came back late at night. The rooms and bathrooms are begging for remodeling.

Excellent location. Small, quiet and comfortable hotel. Staff lovely. Not sure if it’s 5 star rating. Really small bar, did not use this or the breakfast area, but many bars and cafes within 2 minute walk. Paid for slightly larger room for balcony but this was not a balcony at all, ground level with concrete block screened by bamboo. Not even anywhere to sit on so called balcony. I would however stay again due to the location and comfortable quiet room.

Staff were very friendly. The amenities were disappointing for the price. The noise was unacceptable and did not stop until about 2am.

Disappointing for the money
Hotel was in a nice part of town and the terrace area was lovely at night. Great place to have a drink and relax. However, the balcony of the room could not be used as it wasn’t private at all at night. Despite bamboo people drinking in the terrace area could see straight in. Also had to keep the blinds closed during the day for exactly the same reason. Specifically booked a hotel with a balcony so that we could sit out there which was not possible. The other issue was that the light inside the wardrobe could not be turned off so it was impossible to sleep due to the light shining from between the doors.

The hotel building itself is very charming and features many of the old features of the former activities. The studio room we had was large and comfortable. The bed was large and comfortable. The airconditioner was noisy and unfortunately we were in room 207 which is directly above the cafe below so that was noisy in the morning. The staff were very helpful and friendly. There is a nice sitting room/foyer downstairs. No lift but the staff can put your bags in a dumb waiter to get them to first or second floor.

Not a 5 star hotel
This is not a 5 star hotel. I understand that it is heritage listed but it would have been nice to know that there was no lift. Rooms are small. Breakfast is at a very busy cafe next door. If I knew the conditions and price reflected a 3.5 star hotel I wouldn’t complain. I love the Rocks and the reception where nice
