We arrived at the hotel to be told they had no rooms for us. We had been travelling all day from Bangkok and it was new years eve. Char, our tuk tuk driver, drove us around until we found 2 rooms in the D'Angkor Prince hotel. We contacted Hotels.com who sorted us that accommodation for one night and a further 2 night's at the Mekong Angkor Palace.
The staff at the Sakura weren't bothered about us in fact they laughed and said it had happened to someone else earlier that day. We had booked based on good reviews but wouldn't recommend based on their attitude
This place was weird. First of all you walk in and for some reason there are tons of chairs surrounding giant tables that fill the whole room, and glass cases crammed full of random objects. It's very odd. Not welcoming. My room was very nice, I feel that for the money it was very good. However, the service was not good. The first day I booked a tuk tuk driver they recommended. He suggested we go to some further out temples since it was Khmer New Year and Angkor Wat was packed. No problem. Then i tried to have them call him a couple days later, and no answer, so the woman said she would maybe call someone else. I came back down to check and she was gone for the day. So i asked the guy working and he spoke zero English so I decided to call the driver myself. He still wouldn't agree to go to Angkor Wat, saying it was closed still (absolutely not true) and when I kept trying to ask he eventually said "I'm busy tomorrow, bye" and hung up. So basically if you DO stay here, don't use their driver (Rouen). I just walked to another guest house around the corner and they set me up with a friendly and helpful guy. I think overall I was also disappointed that the hotel advertises things in English but then when you try to book them in English it all goes out the window. If you don't speak it, fine, but don't pretend like you do to lure customers.
