Old hotel but good service
The building and infrastructure is old, and the wash basin is constantly blogged, but overall it is a hotel with good service.

Excellent
Very clean; convenient location; courteous staff. The only drawback is slight cigarettes smoke from some rooms that comes into the open space.

We did not stay the night of 06/18 and had Merry Hotel Shanghai (Ms. Meggy) noted 06/15. My hotel.com rep also sent a request for changing my stay from a new date. We are still waiting for your response, considering both hotel.com and Merry Hotel are willing to help in this case. We have been a loyal customer of both for a long time. Thanks.

Decent stay
It’s good hotel to stay in if you’re there on business. We were there for a wedding. The room was nice and spacious as well as clean. Everything was very well presented. My main issue was that housekeeping would knock on our door 3-4 times a day even though we had the do not disturb sign on.

Great location, poor hotel
Breakfast poor, air conditioning is working as they want and not what you set. The staff barely speaks English, those who should assist you with taxi, don't understand nothing and hope you will leave and not ask for their assistance Room is ok and location is great

Overall, all good.
Location was great. The room is advertised with temperature control, but it's not the case. I asked why the air wouldn't go on and I was told this time of the year, the whole system is off. I said, it's a very warm day, and they shrugged their shoulders. Also, not plug-outlets near the bed. Hmmm.

Nice hotel near subway and bus station with easy access to major tourist sites. Big breakfast buffet with chinese and western breakfast items. Friendly, helpful staff.

it could be better
the hotel is OK, clean, location but there were two things I don't like: first when I arrived the hotel late evening out of taxi with three suitcases, no one help me even there were three employers standing and looking at me. I guess they were thinking I was a delivery person which is low-class in China. After finished check-in at counter no one to help me to bring all my belongings into my room. Second, there was no air-condition(cool) in room which is standard procedure for hotel in Shanghai after November. It is OK in normal weather condition but this December was warmer than normal with good weather. My room was too warm for me and no way it can be cold down with open windows, no air circulation.

Excellent location near subway line 2 and 11 but spoilt by ridiculously warm unventilated dingy room with no working aircon.

Fine just to sleep
The hotel is very outdated. The rooms are very nice and comfortable. Water is complimentary and they strive to be green so recommend you use their toiletries sparingly, which I was fine with. The hotel staff were not friendly. They would openly avoid me and let people skip in front of me in the line. Lastly, their gym facilities need a serious update. The equipment is incredibly old and worn out.

The hotel is a good location for traffic.

Still ok- ish for business trip stay
I have been staying here for past 3 years when traveling for business as it is convenient location for me. I have been always happy, however this time I have returned after 4-5 months and hotel looks run down, lobby bar shut as well as lobby shop, reception stuff looked scruffy, I have complained about room as Internet did not worked and room was extremely hot with not air-condition option to take it lower then 25 degrees My 2nd room had bad smell and towels seen better times stayed 3 nights only this time, but for my next trip I will definitely look for different hotel

centrally located
The hotel is centrally located and within 5 minutes walk to Jinan temple and again 5 minutes to line 2. In saying that you need to be familiar with shanghai to find the train or just ask. the Hotel is on the main road and easy to locate. The breakfast is very average and the restaurant is not connected to the hotel so you cannot add it to your bill which is a pain and something they should sort out.
