The Dearborn Loft House was built in 1978 as one of the first passive houses in the Northwest.
Fully remodeled in 2022 as an experiment in regenerative design, the 3BR/2BA Loft House has new fixtures and appliances, heat pump heating/cooling, natural materials, and climate-adaptive landscape.
The Loft House has appeared in Vanity Fair and features 14" raw cedar beams, metalwork by Seattle sculptor George Tsutukawa, poured concrete, and a flood of natural light.

The space
Bedrooms
Each of the large bedrooms features a queen bed, abundant natural light, and storage for short or long term stays. All textiles are a minimum of OEKO-Tex 100 standard. All bedding is organic cotton and linen.
Modern Baths
Each Bathroom has been updated completely. Toiletries are sourced from Public Goods with sustainable ingredients free of parabens, sulfates, toxins, and packaged in biodegradable alternatives to single-use plastic.
Dedicated Workspace
There are three formal work spaces in the Loft House. The Loft has a double-wide architectural desk big enough to spread out, read plans, or collaborate. Each upstairs bedroom features a desk, writing chair, multiple outlet/ USB charging station, dimmable overhead lighting, and multiple sources of task lighting. Pure white walls make projecting a breeze. Whiteboard available upon request.
Fully Outfitted Kitchen
The kitchen is set up the way we'd want it at home. Dishes and flatware for large meals, pots, pans, bowls, baking and serving utensils, knives that are actually sharp, and all the tools you'll need. Toaster, Microwave, professional-grade Thor 5-burner gas range and Fisher Paykel french door SS fridge with bottom freezer. Plenty of ice and a silver bottle chiller. You'll find high quality EVOO, Maldon salt plus basic cooking/baking supplies. If there's anything special you need - let us know and we'll either supply it before your arrival or let you know where you can find it once you settle in.
Coffee/Tea Setup
Coffee lovers unite! The Loft House offers french press, Bialetti espresso maker, and traditional drip coffee machine.
Climate-Adaptive Landscaping
The lawn and landscape have been redesigned for a changing climate with drought tolerant plantings. Plantings include ample habitat for pollinators, birds... and people. You may meet our resident bunnies. Enjoy culinary herbs and help yourself to organic blueberries, strawberries, currants and raspberries when the season is right. If you're curious about this, we're happy to share what we've learned so far.
Access & Mobility
The Loft House doors operate with modern lever handles. There are no steps from driveway to the main entry, and the main floor bath and bedroom are located on a single level with no transitions. All light switches are paddle switches. The entry is gravel with pavers, no steps up or down. Multiple steps to access the backyard or upstairs, all with handrails.
